Mother's horror as son nearly abducted

A Sydney mother has outlined in terrifying detail how her six-year-old son was almost abducted in Centennial Park on Easter Monday, as she called on parents to be hyper-vigilant over not only their own children but others as well.

Man refused bail over child abduction attempts

A Sydney father accused of trying to kidnap two girls has been refused bail.
Mark Hanson was arrested at his Castle Hill home, in the city's north west, last night.

The 49-year-old paint sales rep is accused of trying to snatch a six-year-old girl from her scooter at a park at South Turramurra in February.
Police also allege he was behind an attempted kidnapping on a footbridge at Westleigh in April, where a 14-year-old girl was grabbed and threatened.

Documents tendered to the court allege Hanson dragged her by her uniform, threatened her with a box cutter and warned he was going to rape her, but she escaped.

I could post another 100 such cases.
There's one happening nearly every day, detailed on the radio news bulletins.

They're out there, the bad people, watching, waiting to pounce.

In the Turramurra incident he actually did grab the little girl and was taking her away, when two brave ladies who were playing tennis heard the girl screaming and chased after him, fought him and rescued the girl.

Only one way to keep one's kids safe these days...guard them with your life.
Never let them out of your sight for even one minute.
...and if you have to, assign a SWAT team to protect them.

All praise to helicopter mums...who get out of bed after a hard week's work and make the effort to drive their kids to sport etc.

The bad people lurk in the shadows...waiting to pounce.
Well I have to agree with you there BB. I would probably consider myself a bit of a 'helicopter mum' myself and find that term quite condescending. And my kids haven't reached the teenage years yet with all that cyber bullying stuff. The world has changed since I was a kid growing up in country NSW. And so much more is expected of kids today. I'm doing my best in teaching my kids about independence and giving them coping skills for the future but it's hard work.

I hope I didn't offend you MR as that is the last thing I'd want. I wasn't blessed with children and it's too late for me now but I do have 6 nieces, 2 nephews, 2 great nephews, a great niece and another on the way. I grew up in country QLD and yes, I was free to walk around town as we only had one main street. I don't know how parents cope now with Twitter, Facebook and camera phones intruding on everyone's lives these days, so I take my hat off to you. I think I was more complaining about the amount of 4 wheel drives clogging up Old South Head road on the weekends, rather than the people in them. I've been attacked myself and it's something you never forget and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Also a friend of mine nearly had her son (Roosters junior player too) grabbed in Charing Cross by a mentally disturbed drunk after school one day. She was in the pharmacy and the little boy was just outside in the doorway. I was forever calling the police when I was running a business in that area, so again I apologise if I offended anyone.

          Of course there are.
Being front line retail I see it every day (especially here in Loonyville).

Don't let the fear control or ruin your life.

IM with you , when i am not stirring up a hornets nest on this site posting a lot of stuff i don't even beleive, i am ferrying my kids to training every night of the week, followed by an action packed weekend of their sport.

And i would not have it any other way

It is hard to get across to your kids especially a 15 yo daughter that the reason you will not let them travel on public transport alone is not because you can't trust them, it is because you can no longer trust the deviates out there.

Working within that system i see some pretty nasty shit on a daily basis, it is an eye openet, it is a shame on around 25% of incidents get reported.

Well that is my Oprah Winfrey moment, where is my feckin car!!!

'Blessed with children' all depends on what type of adults the children turn out to be.
I've seen many shockers in my time.
Many of the said children who've treated their parents very badly from mid teens onwards, spoken to them horribly, made their lives a misery, and then treated them even worse when the parents reached middle age-old age.
The parents would've been far better off spending the 800,000 on themselves, saving for their retirement and being able to buy luxuries in the retirement village/nursing home.

It's ok, you don't have dementia.
Dementia is where you can't remember you even have a car. [not for one second making light of dementia]

15 yr old daughter is not a 'true believer' in her mum's wisdom?

NSW Police hold state of secrecy on crimes including rape and murder

THOUSANDS of crimes, including rape and murder, are being hidden by the NSW Police Force with details being kept secret for days or weeks.

In a long-running investigation, The Daily Telegraph found that police are underplaying the seriousness of crimes in the force's new digital reporting system.

Caitlan has told her story to The Daily Telegraph as a warning to women . "You need to know there are monsters out there worse than the ones in our dreams," she said.

No offence taken RWB. I guess that term 'helicopter Mum' is just a little bugbear of mine. That's awful that you've been attacked yourself. In the past few years there's been a couple of occasions where weirdos were attacking young kids on the way to and from school here in Canberra. Quiet little Canberra! It's awful and my kids walk to and from school too as we live just under a km away. I'd hate to think what it's like in Sydney. As for Twitter and all that stuff, I fear it's just a matter of a few years before I'll have to start dealing with that and I'm not looking forward to it one little bit. Also, next week my boy is going all the way to Victoria for a 4 day school camp. That's the longest he's ever been away from his family - he's 10 years old. It's a sign how fast he's growing up.
