At a guess, id say we would be looking to keep maubs at around the 250k mark. Dont forget he isnt currently a rep player (although he is on the verge). Imo, a fair reflection of his value is 250k at the moment and maybe 300k when he is at full tilt. No more

If my assertion is Aubusson is one of the best fringe defenders in the comp why wouldn't I support it with those stats? There's nothing misleading about them at all, I never presented those stats as the be all and end all of a players ability or even defensive ability.

Happy with his game on a whole? Yes. I never made a comment about his attacking game so I don't feel the need to back anything up...

I think Guerra is better fit for our left edge and our team on a whole.
People don't like stats because they often undermine what they thought they saw and what they believe to be so true. Stats aren't clouded by the bias, past experiences or lack of knowledge. Put simply they're a great tool, when put into context they can reveal a lot, if you truly believe they mean 'next to little' then you're doing it wrong.

Maubs is one of the best hole runners in the NRL in my opinion.

He was a bit quiet last year, but that was after a pretty serious injury.

Looking at the defensive stats only puts him higher up in my book.

I rate Maubs highly, but I don't think I could justify paying anything more than 300k for him, raised salary cap or not.

I know his days as a centre are probably behind him, but I salivate at the prospect of him playing outside SBW. It would be a match made in heaven imo - maubs' mobility and brilliant hole running working off SBW's power and skill. Imo, if we were to do it, it wouldnt even necessarily be a case of maubs playing 'outside SBW'. I could see them both swapping between backrow and centre (ie playing wider and tighter) which would add a great deal of unpredictability but also make them both far more dangerous in attack because they can effectively share the backrower's share of the work and also take a good amount of defensive work from pearce who imo, still does way too much defence for a 7. We could do worse things than:
          1. RTS
          2. Minichiello
          3. Jennings
          4. Maubs
          5. SKD

We spent years playing Aubs in the centres and he was more useless than a useless thing. He only found his feet during his career when he moved into the backrow.

Remember when we had the slowest centre combo in the comp a few years ago with Soliola/Sa and aubs in the centres :/

he has been good but wouldn't it be smarter to re-sign Napa and Langi first

If Gallen isn't out of the game for injecting Gorilla hormones (that's a joke ASADA) then he'd be 32 and well past it.

Gal's got his best years ahead of him he can be put out to pasture for a bit & bought back later just like they do with race horses. Gal's got a bigger heart than Pharlap.

I know but I think you are looking at it as a traditional centre role. He and SBW are both half backrower and half centre imo. Both are also right-side dominant and have complementary playing styles. I think giving them both the freedom to swap between playing tighter and wider would be great for us. Who better to exploit SBW's great short-passing and ability to attract multiple defenders than arguably the best hole runner in the game. He certainly has enough speed to latch onto a short ball and make the most of a clean break

That's good news! I got the impression from the papers he was probably going to leave. He is a very reliable and strong player.

They will probably wait until before the Illa-sox game.

Roz I'm not convinced he's up to defending in the centres anymore. Last year his defence was shocking there.

I can only put it down to the fact that he's bulked up a lot and doesn't have the mobility or speed needed to defend in the centers that he used to have. Have no doubts he could handle the attack side of it all...

Has he bulked up more? I would like to see him bigger.

I don't think Maubs is a long term option for centre but if someone went down he is the first guy I would put in there.

They way he plays I don't think much would change.

Anyway at the right price I'm happy to have him.
