I think it just goes to show how paranoid and over the top the media coverage is becoming on this subject at the moment.

I've never understood the idea of match fixing. Don't get me wrong, I obviously know what it means and what it involves a player doing but I don't understand the thought process involved.

These are people who partake in a sport. Today any sportsman's goal is to compete against other sportspeople within their code and try to win every event possible, because you never know if you will get that same opportunity again due to injuries or form.

If any player is seeking a quick and illegal way to make money, then why not just go and rob a bank??? Why would you tarnish something which you love. The people that fix matches they play in or even take performance enhancing drugs are not just cheating the Australian public but also themselves. It gets even worse for people who are in team sports who are being selfish to their team mates as well.Strange for someone to do such a thing....

It's all about the $$$ mate.

Consequences are rarely considered when people are greedy.

And no one really thinks they will get caught.

Remember we are fans. We look at the ideals of sport as being something pure and moral.

To some of the participants, especially these days with so much money to be made, it's a job pure and simple.

Humans will always cheat. Adam and Eve are the template.

Risk v Reward.....robbing a bank is a lot bigger risk. Much easier to just give a pitch report here and there, then lead into bowling the odd no-ball at an opportune time....or give away a penalty in front of the posts in the opening minute of a game.

Not to me it isn't if I were a footy player. Becoming a first grade footballer is not something which happens overnight. Footy players start when they are 8-10 yrs and make their fg debuts normally between 18-20 yrs old. In that ten year gap they would have played through dozens of competitions, went through numerous injuries and recovery sessions, trained for literally thousands of hours, and overcome many mental barriers. It gets even harder once they start playing FG.

It would sound absolutely ridiculous that someone would jeopardize this journey and the privilege of playing first grade just for money. I'm not from a wealthy family nor am I a wealthy person, but surely money can't be that important to people. Many people involved in sport are making enough money anyway. There is a serious lack of pride involved.

I go to chook home games whenever I can, usually on sunday arvo's, and every time I go there from when I was the age of around 8 or 9, I always think that I would give anything I own to be able to pull on a chooks jersey and play a game of footy for them. I wasn't blessed with the talents that these kids have but to think that someone threw that game in 2009 and that it was one of our own guys makes me feel so sick on the inside.

Mate you have lost me. If you consider robbing a bank to be easier then giving away a penalty in front of the sticks then I truly wonder about you.

Not strange that some people would do it.
Not everyone has high ideals and love for the sports they play.

Yeah this has got really confusing mate My overall point is that I would find it really hard morally to betray something that I love rather than something which means nothing to me.That whole bank thing got really whacky.

If you ever have spare time on your hands, I recommend a book called sin bin, which was written by John Elias. It's one of the best Autobiographies written by any rugby league person imho. It really tells an amazing story, whether it be true or not, of the moral dilemmas faced in life and rugby league.
