Now I'm from the oldskool myself. But at some stage you have to realize that the RL world has changed, as has the sporting world, as has the world in general.
In theory I agree with you. I am not from the "me" generation. I'm from the "team" generation. But guess what, what we think matters little these days. That's just the ever changing face of the world.
$BW IMO puts in 110% into what he is doing at the time, team or individual. I have NEVER seen a scrap of evidence to suggest any different. I have only ever heard players praise the blokes dedication, efforts and attitude in a TEAM environment. If you can prove otherwise, other than the Boggs incident, I will accept that.
We have run with a youth policy. We have the youngest squad in the NRL. We NEED experience. It's the ONLY reason we have stuck with Mini from what I can see, we NEED at least some experience. FFS our coach is as green as our squad.
$BW was NEVER going to be a long term signing. 2 years max from all indications. He is here to bring his brand of success to the club, to teach the kids what's required to WIN. That's what he does he WINS. Wherever he goes he WINS.
He also attracts members and sponsors. He is UNIQUE in he offers on field success and off field success. He's offered those qualities for years now. I see zero evidence to show why the trend shouldn't continue with us, NOW.
Yep it's a gamble. But I can't for the life of me find a player or players off contract this season who offers 1/2 of what $BW does.
I don't give a fark what other clubs may or may not have done, I'm proud of my club and the way Nick does business. He has shown while he doesn't always get it right, no one ever does, he is prepared to make the big calls to at least ensure we are competitive.
Am I so far off the mark or are you still living in 1955???
Opinions and doubts are fine. But looking at the facts as they stand, if you can prove what I've written above is wrong well I will apologize to yourself gladly.
Maybe you aren't playing games, maybe you are, I don't really care, I'm sure you know my "Easts Man" comment was my way of getting what I wanted, to engage you in debate. It's all good.
We don't have to agree that's healthy. And there is always the possibility $BW will fail with us.
But I've always stated it's a gamble, then again EVERY signing is a gamble. And I believe looking at the blokes career so far there is zero evidence to show he's a "me" person anyways. That's journos opinions that have become fact now because sheeple follow and don't think for themselves.
Simple really would you rather we didn't have $BW??? And who else should we have picked up??? Or should we have stuck with Bwaiff??? Or maybe upgraded "locals" like Cherro and Symonds???
