Saying that GI and sonny bill "could easily make 5 million a year". They pretty much just based that off the fact that Zach miller was overpaid at 9mil/year by a desperate team. When in actual fact a guy like Vernon Davis (one of, if not, the best TE's in the nfl) makes just over 5 million. Not only is Davis a freakish athlete (he'd have it over GI IMO) but he's also a freakishly talented tight end. So to say that someone with no experience (in a pretty technical position) could walk in and earn as much as the best in the business, based off athleticism is ridiculous.
Who knows what a league player could do in the nfl but you can just about guarantee there'll be no teams lining up offering that kind of money to find out.
Jesse Williams ring a bell? Ordinary yawnion player in local Brisbane comp to first round draft pick in the NFL.
backwards, you're so far off the mark nowadays I can barely be bothered with you, but I'll try and explain my point of view to you. Hopefully you can stay on the topic and respond to what I actually say.
My concern with SBW comes about because of the "it's all about me" attitude he and the other Khoder Nasser disciples display. Even as recently as a few years back, anyone who carried on like these guys do would have been pretty much ostracized from any club that was serious about building a culture that was about the team. I'm sure there are many clubs even now who wouldn't touch him. For clubs looking for long term success, that's the number one priority - the team. Guys who don't subscribe to that, regardless of how good a player they are, do more harm than good. His code hopping, one year deal, bigshot persona gives me reason to believe he may not be a team player. With the sad news of Feris Ashton's passing, I was thinking about the difference between between a man like him and SBW. That great quote about watching the club as a youngster, and the honour it was for him to then play for the Roosters. Please spare me the "you're not an East man" crap. I'm hoping like hell he turns out to be fantastic for the club, but I have my doubts
Teabags it's 20farkin13 mate.
It's not 1955.
Now I'm from the oldskool myself. But at some stage you have to realize that the RL world has changed, as has the sporting world, as has the world in general.
In theory I agree with you. I am not from the "me" generation. I'm from the "team" generation. But guess what, what we think matters little these days. That's just the ever changing face of the world.
$BW IMO puts in 110% into what he is doing at the time, team or individual. I have NEVER seen a scrap of evidence to suggest any different. I have only ever heard players praise the blokes dedication, efforts and attitude in a TEAM environment. If you can prove otherwise, other than the Boggs incident, I will accept that.
We have run with a youth policy. We have the youngest squad in the NRL. We NEED experience. It's the ONLY reason we have stuck with Mini from what I can see, we NEED at least some experience. FFS our coach is as green as our squad.
$BW was NEVER going to be a long term signing. 2 years max from all indications. He is here to bring his brand of success to the club, to teach the kids what's required to WIN. That's what he does he WINS. Wherever he goes he WINS.
He also attracts members and sponsors. He is UNIQUE in he offers on field success and off field success. He's offered those qualities for years now. I see zero evidence to show why the trend shouldn't continue with us, NOW.
Yep it's a gamble. But I can't for the life of me find a player or players off contract this season who offers 1/2 of what $BW does.
I don't give a fark what other clubs may or may not have done, I'm proud of my club and the way Nick does business. He has shown while he doesn't always get it right, no one ever does, he is prepared to make the big calls to at least ensure we are competitive.
Am I so far off the mark or are you still living in 1955???
Opinions and doubts are fine. But looking at the facts as they stand, if you can prove what I've written above is wrong well I will apologize to yourself gladly.
Maybe you aren't playing games, maybe you are, I don't really care, I'm sure you know my "Easts Man" comment was my way of getting what I wanted, to engage you in debate. It's all good.
We don't have to agree that's healthy. And there is always the possibility $BW will fail with us.
But I've always stated it's a gamble, then again EVERY signing is a gamble. And I believe looking at the blokes career so far there is zero evidence to show he's a "me" person anyways. That's journos opinions that have become fact now because sheeple follow and don't think for themselves.
Simple really would you rather we didn't have $BW??? And who else should we have picked up??? Or should we have stuck with Bwaiff??? Or maybe upgraded "locals" like Cherro and Symonds???

Mostly fair points backwards, and I really hope you're right. I can't prove you wrong any more than you can prove me wrong, they're just our individual opinions. I do think though that having an ethos that is team based can't be fobbed off as being from 1955. It still holds true today. But maybe you're right, and maybe he will provide some leadership and some inspiration for these young guys. The proof will come as the season unfolds. Again, I hope you're right

Mate I respect your opinion also, it's all good.
All we can do is hope now.
I know at least this season offers much more in the hope side of things to the last couple of years. It was punishing discussing Bwaiff and Smiff knowing it was always a lose-lose situation.
Speaking of Andrew Walker.....anybody else remember Gus saying how he used to make up excuses for the real AW when he missed training or went walkabout because he was just too bloody good to leave out of the team?

One Sunday afternoon I arrived at Central Station just after 2pm for a 2.30pm start.. I was worried I would miss the start of the game when lo and behold there was Andrew Walker in his Roosters tracksuit and a sports bag hailing a cab. He started that match

Great story I really enjoy those kinds of football related anecdotes, particularly when a character like Andrew Walker is involved.
