SBW offers half his contract oney for the Roosters to sign Cooper
Actually, I think Maloney would be a good full back. He's very fast and elusive and his defensive weaknesses would be less a problem there. Not sure how he goes under the high ball...
I don't actually disagree with you but I'd never be the one to bring it up on here. When you watch him at his best last year it's when he's running off Mateo, I think there's a lot of potential for a great combination with SBW. I still think Quade should play fullback though if we were to sign him, easiest way for him to enter the game.
I remember Maloney playing a few games at the back near the end of the season last year because they'd been hit with a bit of an injury crisis.
As nice as it is to think otherwise, Minichiello is almost certainly going to keep the fullback spot. I can't see how we would fit Cooper in, but if we are getting him for nothing we can sit him on the bench until he shows he's better than any of our other options. He comes across as the sort of bloke who wouldn't mind getting paid without playing, so win win.
Before everyone gets carried away, do you really think the NRL are going to let the Roosters register both Quade Cooper and Sonny Bill on contracts for only $275K each?
I don't see why not, are they seriously going to tell players they're not earning enough money?
They have no legal standing and I've never heard of it being applied to the salary cap before... players have taken pay cuts in the past.
I'm hearing Shuey won't register Falou's contract for anything under 400k.
They also wouldn't let Melbourne players take a pay cut to stay together after the salary cap scandal.

This is nothing new.
Different scenarios.
Ones to do with back ending the other with an illegally assembled squad

You could always argue that an unproven rugby player coming off an injury and guy that's been out of the game for a long time also coming of an injury aren't worth more than 300-400k each.

I dont see how they can do that, why cant a club be stupid and back end a contract, anyhow I think we are close to someone challenging the cap in league or afl. I dont see how its fair when a club like the brncs gets around it and has the biggest advantage over all the comp.
Their jersey is worth the most with a que of sponsors for the whole team.
This just shows how unprofessional the game still is IMO.
How we don't have some Injured Roster system is beyond comprehension.
Moga is done for next season. We should have the option of replacing his spot for next year with Cooper then when Mini retires in 2014 we can allow Moga his spot.
This keeps Moga in our system, just not wasted against our cap. And allows for the spot to be filled for the year.
Win win for everyone.
As an aside wasn't there some allowance for Yawnion converts to be allowed a nominal cap fee for their first year as an encouragement to sign to our game???
Didn't Gaz, Wendall etc come back mid season at a drastically reduced rate???
Even players from SL, isn't their some cap incentive for getting talent into the game???

Professional my arse.
A lot of very good points, mate. Agree.
The whole cap is a joke.
It's just so negative and restrictive. There is no growth.
It's supposed to be there to stop clubs going broke. Well fark me but the GC and Melba among many others have proven that's just a load of shit.
The original set up was a good idea......but like all good things the accountants & legal beagles pick it to pieces to the point that it needs to go.
I don't know what the fix is but this just ain't working to the benefit of the game.
I'd take Quade if we could get him cheaply. No doubt he has the skills, but at the same time, no idea where he'd play!!!!
Our halves pairing is arguably the best in the comp (and IMO will be a serious consideration for the NSW pairing if Carney doesn't have an amazing start to the season and Pearce/Maloney do.)
FB... sure we could punt Mini, but it would be CRIMINAL stunting RTS' career as a fullback so that Quade can play out of position in a different football code for 1 season and steal what remains of our cap for player retention. MAYBE RTS on the wing and Quade at FB, but I don't think so.
Hooker... he's not the kind of half who can double as a hooker IMO.
I just saw the highlights of the interview with SBW & Quade Cooper. The Rooster have an opportunity to take SBW up on his word & sign Cooper & pay them both from the same contract.
I cant believe SBW said that, they must be so tight. Friendship is what I am talking about ralphy.

I can't see the NRL simply allowing this to happen re; salary cap.. Iam at least hoping they won't.
