I really do not want Cooper at the Roosters but if he were to join I believe the only option for the spine is as below. The likes of Pearce, Cooper, Maloney would take up too much cap space if they were all here. I prefer RTS to Cooper as fullback anyway.

    1. RTS
    6. Cooper
    7. Maloney
    9. Friend (hoping for someone better)
    ...

Can't drop Pearce just to sign Cooper for 1 year.

lol its funny how highly Maloney is rated on here. The guy is a good support player, average organising ability and a woeful defender.

I feel for him because he's a good player but peoples expectations are way too high.

Maybe you don't realize he is on a 3 year contract.. How stupid can anyone be to think he won't be playing First grade whilst he is contracted to the Roosters.. The lowest hanging fruit gets chopped.. Pearce has one more year to run on his contract and will want big dollars.. It is pretty simple to understand why he goes.. I don't see how Cooper would be much better than RTS at Fullback but RTS will command a much smaller contract so economics come into play when deciding who stays and who goes.

The man has been signed to a 3 year contract whereas Mitchell Pearce is off contract at the end of this season. It is a simple equation that the man off contract would be replaced by Quade Cooper on similar money, if it were to happen.

Quade Cooper and James Maloney are the only halves pairing we can go with. Quade Cooper and Mitchell Pearce can not happen.

Just goes to show again how sbw is such a generous and clever visionary, the club getting services of cooper for next to nothing and people complaining? Well done sbw.

              welcome quade.

Geesus what a coup it would be?

TV ratings would be massive for an opening round NRL match with SBW and Cooper. We'd have corporations holding auctions to sponsor us. They'd draw massive interest from overseas and it'd be one huge slap in the face for yawnion. And Alcho CHeeks will have a stroke.

                Make it happen Nick.

                Chook.

I never said anything of the sort, don't put words in my mouth. Ironically you're the one who thinks Mitchell Pearce wont be playing...

I'll agree to disagree, I'd never pick a team based on economics. Especially when you're dumping a player who'll be here well beyond 2013.

Maloney basically plays like a fullback in attack, I think you need to offset his style with a playmaker at fullback and that's what Quade is. RTS, for all his potential still has a long way to go in terms of decision making, vision & ball playing ability.

If this is proved legitimate by "The Shu", then why not. Provides options but selection headaches for Robbo. Good problem to have if he can balance the bench and not have too many backs.

Actually, I think Maloney would be a good full back. He's very fast and elusive and his defensive weaknesses would be less a problem there. Not sure how he goes under the high ball...

Before everyone gets carried away, do you really think the NRL are going to let the Roosters register both Quade Cooper and Sonny Bill on contracts for only $275K each?

I don't actually disagree with you but I'd never be the one to bring it up on here. When you watch him at his best last year it's when he's running off Mateo, I think there's a lot of potential for a great combination with SBW. I still think Quade should play fullback though if we were to sign him, easiest way for him to enter the game.

I don't see why not, are they seriously going to tell players they're not earning enough money?

They have no legal standing and I've never heard of it being applied to the salary cap before... players have taken pay cuts in the past.

                              Interesting.

The potential negative I see is that the playing group will feel very much second fiddle to a Quade/SBW duo.

2009-esque player splits, that sort of thing.

                              Tread carefully Nick.

Speculating over whether we buy a player with ability that Cooper has is a welcome change over whether we buy players like Koups or Jordan Tansey..

                                Or Bwaiff..
