Personally I would rather be in a strong position on the ladder before we need to get desperate and win games at the back end of a season. Canberra had momentum heading into the finals last year and look where it got them? Melb on the other hand didnt and they won the comp.
Was comparing it to the preparation of a horse not a single race. Never mind.

My point is history proves that teams usually can't stay at their best for long periods of time, mentally and physically it's just too hard in the modern day game. Of course you want to be picking up points at the beginning of the season but I don't think you need to 'hit the ground running', lots of teams spend the opening rounds getting rid of the rust, working on skills & new combinations (it's no coincidence our average 2012 squad picked up the bulk of our points in this period). I definitely think teams need to build into a season and a lot of your decision making as a coach has to be with one eye on the team playing their best footy towards the end of the competition to make a run into the finals.

By the way Melbourne finished the season on an 8 game winning streak... I don't know about you but that seems like pretty good momentum to me?

My mistake about the Storm but they only went into the finals with five wins on the trot. They did however lose five before that run. Which goes to show how important starting the season off with their mighty run of 9 wins was. That run early on laid the foundation for their top 2 finish and we know how important it was to finish in the top 2 last season.

Im not arguing with your logic. I just think we can take advantage of the teams 'getting rid of the rust' early. Why should we settle for a 'rusty' side when there are others who are not? With the cattle we have coming on board, we should be contenders straight away next year and be able to lay a good foundation for the rest of the season. Dont forget we have a superstar whos record shows he onlt plays 2/3rds of a season so we need to get the most out of him while we can. Get the lead and make the others catch you. Getting guaranteed points in the bag early means you are not playing desperate later which can very easily backfire.

willing to work hard as he did in rugby to get the results

wants to be considered as a boxer as well

knows fans will write him off but he's motivated with this

likes the fact theres polynesians in the team which will make him feel at home, also likes the youth in the team

humble in his attitude, will be judged on his on field performance but knows it will be tough & gaining his team mates respect

confident in his skill levels, challenge to be in the forwards which where he reckons he'll be

Does not dwell on negatives but realises his injuries are a hurdle

El Masri welcome to his opinions

Will be making a plan with Robbo reff season before he returns to Japan

Definitely back for the first round, 3-4 weeks prior to start in prep

vanilla contract via law firm for one year, salary cap ....jus made it

"will join the club for one season, before returning to New Zealand to help the All Blacks prepare for the 2015 Rugby World Cup."

If this is the case going into the contract then this is bull crap. Ive heard the rumours, but if we go into the deal with SBW only ever going to play for 1 yr then thats just plain ridiculous.

Even if SBW tears it apart in 2013 we cant win a premiership, our team is still to young. Then in 2014 SBW will leave and will leave a massive gap in our team...

Ahhh seriously wish we had gone for Izzy or someone who will be something long term...oh well :/

Totally agree - he should of signed for 3 years and no more boxing.

Politis has done so many great things for the club - but this is RIDICULOUS!!

What about the culture at this club?

That line about "returning to New Zealand to help the All Blacks prepare for the 2015 Rugby World Cup" gives me the right royal sh1ts IF it's true as it just underlines the mercenary and cynical nature of this "cameo" for the Roosters. I had hoped the Roosters club weren't so willing to bend over and grab their ankles for the sbw "treatment."

In my opinion - you can build a team around him for next year and hope for the best just like when we signed Carney.
He will put bums on seats
Every club needs a "hero" type player -the kids will love him.
He will get plenty of media attention good for our sponsors not so good for him so hopefully our club smarties will address a plan for it to be coped with.
Dont whinge ride the storm this will be great.
He will take a few weeks to settle but I am certain he will get the results.
SBWilliamsmania is alive -enjoy it you farkers

Yeah I'm on board...could potentially be huge for our club.

My feeling is that he'll stay longer than the year and maybe long term...no logic or reason for that, just gut feel.
