Playing union in a second rate comp is not ideal preparation for an NRL season. That's what you call an undisputable fact.
    Do you mean indisputable?

So do you think with a new coaching team and a side that has new key players and the rest who haven't tasted semis in a few seasons we are a chance of starting "on fire" and maintaining that thru 26 rounds and thru the semis mate???

Even Melba had a post Origin wobble this year and The Boggs started slowly. WoManly and Souffs and The Faiders started slowly also. All had momentum when it counted.

Teams like The Tardpoles and The Wankos started well and fell away after Origin and limped into the semis. And they hardly made a dent.

Smiffs methods may have failed this year but we did go 4 wins from 6 games and while we hadn't played well we we in a better position than most of the sides who eventually made the 8. Then we were found out and other teams clicked.

IMO a good side learns more from tight losses early more often than not. Plenty of shit sides look good early and really get the wobbles when other teams hit form and work them out.

Long season AlFredo. Just cos you got it right in 2012 doesn't mean starting slow and finishing with momentum can't and doesn't work. Watsamatta 09, Easts 10, Bros and WoManly 11 all made GFs that way.

Everyone strives to be Melba but most sides struggle to play at that level for 30 weeks. Just the reality of the modern game mate.

        The FlogPen .

        You know it makes sense.

His last game for the All Blacks was at the end of August......before our blokes started 'partying'.

By the time the NRL season starts, it may as well have been a thousand years ago, for all the bearing it will have.

Careful, or I'll start mentioning Jimmy Dymock in every other post. Or Everingham. Or BJ/Masoe/Tasi/Symonds/Arona are rubbish, and we should sign everyone who might be coming off contract.....

Mediocrity is unacceptable. We've had that the last 2 seasons. Enough is enough. I won't accept mediocrity and nobody should!
Other teams hit the ground running from day one. Why can't we!
Shyt! I actually agree with you! Wheres this been Thirteen? Fire up son! Aceepting losses in the first few rounds could be the ones that cost you a spot in the finals. Take what you can get when you can and make it happen.

I understand what you are saying backwards but Im a fan of striking early.

Something like Souffs in 2012. Get your injuries and lost opportunities out of the way early, settle on a team, then hopefully have some form and momentum after Origin and roll into the 8, setting up a shot at going deep in the semis.

Sure a great start and consistency and a high finish is what we all want but we haven't been that sorta side since 03-04.

We hit the ground running this season, unfortunately the first 5-10 rounds don't mean much. Its all about peaking at the back end of the season, like a good horse.

A horse wins nothing for leading from the gates. A footy team winning gets points that calculate to a combined total at the end of the year. It does not matter if you got them at the start of the end but you do need to get them. Personally I would rather be in a strong position on the ladder before we need to get desperate and win games at the back end of a season. Canberra had momentum heading into the finals last year and look where it got them? Melb on the other hand didnt and they won the comp.

I'm more of the liking to show some form early without being red hot and building on that.
I definitely don't want to be starting slow though.
If we are in the 8 after the first ten rounds playing good and consistent then ill be happy to build on that.
It is hard to be red hot for 26 rounds in this comp.

We need players to be fresh and injury free and if that means taking our foot off the pedal and making sure players are withstanding a proper workload then so be it. I think we need to urgently work on less strenuous activities in the offseason, like set plays, defensie reads and shifting across the line in defense.
You have been given wrong information then.

The pre season before the 09 season was a joke
