This bloke is already close to being the highest maintenance player we've ever had...and he hasn't even signed yet.

If Nick had any cojones, he'd call him up, admit he's made a terrible mistake and tell him not to bother rocking up.

Dismissing the value of a pre-season because he'll be 'fit' is ignorant.

This is 100% correct.. What we do not know is whether he will spend some time training with the team whilst training for his fight.

They probably should just keep him at Newtown the defending Premiers to see if they can go back to back.
They would have SBW Mortimer Mose Bosden Symonds Cherro Ailaomai Arona Henry Oldfield maybe Friend Mini Evans Nappo & Moga.

The Newtown jumper suits SBW better I think.

Playing for Newtown I would play him on the wing probably the left wing in the 1st half & then right wing in the 2nd half. It would enable him to fine tune his peripheral vision, very good for boxing & it would confuse everyone I think.

probably also ignorant to think that any of that has happened for the past couple years at the chooks too!

Players who move clubs mid yr seem to cope with fitting in well and if sonny cant remember teammates names he can always call them by there number!

League training doesn't even come close to boxing training.
VERY different training. I'd expect him to be fast, lean, good at stepping/slipping tackles and good at punching.

                    My questions would be:
                    - Will he lack bulk? Footy players generally aren't all that lean because they need that extra bulk and the low centre of gravity. (Most carry 10kg+ of extra padding whereas SBW will be aiming to be as light as possible... EXPLOSIVE AS HELL... but with no padding.)
                    - What will his ball skills be like? Especially with that extra strength in his arms... will it hinder his timing? (e.g. will he be throwing balls a bit higher/faster, not having complete realisation of his extra arm strength?)
                    - What will his team skills be like granted he has never played with/against most of our boys? Will he be doing lots of special moves, but not quite connecting up with the team plan? (e.g. On the 3rd tackle doing masterful offloads/flick passes that have 80m runaway try scoring potential but go into touch instead because either nobody's expecting them, or the timing is wrong?)

I have no doubt he'll be an awesome player, but this is professional footy and he needs to be on song ALL SEASON. Losing a few stupid games early on could cost us a place in the top 4 (or top 8.)

                    ---

That said I agree with you on the benefits of boxing training. His fitness and explosiveness will be second to none!!!!

He'll have AMAZING footwork, endurance and upper-body/arm strength. His famous "Sonny Bill big hit" will be SCAAAARY to watch!!! I'm just about creaming myself picturing his shoulder whamming into smart@ss carnts like Sandow, Coward, Reynolds, Luke, Burns...etc.

As a marquee individual who's there to provide an individual try-scoring streak of brilliance he will be amazing. He'll EASILY last 80 minutes and cause complete havock every time he runs the ball.

The team factor and fine tuning of his freakish footy skills will be a worry though. Nervous times ahead...

He'll be the fittest bloke in the club by far.

The issue here for me is how the others will react to the different treatment for 1 individual.

That's half of what I was getting at in my last paragraph.

I should have added to it.

Theres been a few rugby league players who were also top ranked pro fighters Billy Johnstone springs to mind as a good example of sombody who combined both. Was probably the fittest player in the game when he was boxing as well.He still is one of the hardest fitness coaches in the game.

Will he be fit? is the pope catholic, are we stupid or pretending!

The only negative that can be debated is game plan if he joins the club a couple of weeks from Rnd1, now how long will it take him to get up to speed? lol serious pettiness and stupid posts!

Considering we kept who we wanted and lost a piece of heavy dead wood in Anasta and picked up a decent 5/8 whats all the fuss about??
The guy will make a big difference in our team, a big difference in crowds and I think he will lift the whole team. Our big boys will be pumped to play with him they idolise him, you can hear the hope and excitement in their voices. I spoke to JWH and he is jumping up and down like a little kid with his fingers and toes crossed.

Anyone that is against the SBW signing is a frken idoit we lost nothing to sign him.
