  • SBW's fight to be held less than 3 weeks before start of NRL season

this SBW deal is getting stranger by the minute, Khoder Nasser is expected to announce the SBW fight against Botha will now take place mid to late february, which means SBW will have less than 3 weeks to prepare for the start of the NRL season.

there is every chance that SBW will not play another rugby game for Panasonic in Japan instead focussing on preparing for his fight in february.

must be some real questions as to whether SBW would be fit to play in round 1 against the bunnies, he won't have played/trained for union/league for 4 months, with his entire fitness campaign tailored towards boxing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again....

League training doesn't even come close to boxing training.

He'll be the fittest bloke in the club by far.

The issue here for me is how the others will react to the different treatment for 1 individual.

Its a different kind of fitness though. Anyway fitness isnt a problem its matches he needs. If we agree to this it is a joke really....ffs we are a professional sporting club

Prior to his injury, he was training for both Rugby & Boxing in Japan. If he has been ruled out of the rest of the Rugby season, there is no reason why he couldn't both train with us and prepare for his bout, up until the last few weeks before the fight, just as he was doing up until the injury. He may actually end up with a longer pre-season with us than he would have otherwise.

Some of you guys need to stop making, and believing, illogical assumptions, wild guesses and malicious gossip.

SBW will arrive fit & strong.

SBW will play against the Dogs.

                  SBW will make a difference.

Exactly. I can't say I know much about boxing or how they train but it certainly seems to me that a lot of it wouldn't transfer over to the requirements of league.

I think he will beat the sh1t out of Botha and then come a rip the sh1t out of every other NRL team that we play.
SBW is a walk-up starter to any rugby league team yesterday, today or tomorrow.

Botha is just another fat over the hill fighter, looking for a good pay cheque. SBW will clean him up without raising a sweat, probably toying with him for 4 or 5 rounds, so the patrons get their monies worth, then he'll put him away.

If he is fit enough to train the pre-season with us, he would be fit enough to play out his Japanese contract, unless you want SBW on the Ninja bro's hit list, then I'd suggest he keep himself available to fulfill his $1M contract!

Pre-season isn't just about core fitness.

It's about learning game plans, being able to read how your team mates play, working on combinations, working on set plays & arguably the most important bonding with your teammates.

Dismissing the value of a pre-season because he'll be 'fit' is ignorant.
