It is strange, clubs usually can't wait to trumpet and parade big name signings the moment they're locked in.

The people who somehow think a person who makes his debut at age 23 is going to be our Saviour are mad.Originally posted by Batemans Bay Rooster View Post
Hugo's "final audition" was against Cronulla?
20 games into his career, in his first season.
Are you farking mad?
DCE was 19 when he made his debut. DCE had 37 assists last year. Hugo "The Saviour" had 12.
Please tell me what was Hugo doing before last year? Was he playing under another name somewhere?

What are you talking about? No one said they weren’t below par. Who’s singling him out? This thread is about the Brent Read article in which Hugo is mentioned. Maybe talk to Brent if you don’t like it.Originally posted by QWERTY View Post
Most of our players were below par that game. Why single out a first year rookie? Incredibly naive take
"However, Cherry-Evans officially becomes a free agent on November 1 and the Roosters will move quickly to get his signature on a contract in a move that is expected to have ramifications for their existing squad as five-eighth Hugo Savala prepares to head to market to gauge interest in his services.”

‘Nah I’m SAYING bro… from what I’ve been hearing, unless something drastic happens, Daly’s a Rooster. Few things still to fall into place, but let’s just say I’ve made a few calls and it’s looking real close.’

The NRL would like to know why we're paying serious overs ($600k) for DCE when he's not that much better than our Chad who was on $300k a year.Originally posted by ism22 View Post

Based on the Chad scale, DCE should be worth no more than $450k a year.

What was Hugo doing last year? He was doing the same thing DCE was doing at the same age: playing in reserve grade because the first grade team had an established half in front of him and he was too old for the under 20s. Hugo didn't have the luxury of walking in to a team in his debut season that has recently won and lost a grand final either.

Statistically DCE was a top 5 half in season 2025, was Chad Townsend even a top 5 half in NSW Cup?Originally posted by Bates View Post

Well, when you say Savala’s “final audition came in the semi-final against Cronulla and he failed badly,” disregarding the fact that it’s his first year and not giving mention of the whole team’s performance (senior players especially not standing up); then comparing him to Katoa, who has played 2 seasons more first grade (and rep games), seems like your throwing him under the bus.Originally posted by The Real King View Post

DCE might better than Savala next year, but it’s certainly not a sure thing given his age and the fact that his form has been dipping. I’m alright with DCE if we can keep Savala. He is born and bred in Bondi, and has been one of our more promising halves prospects from our jr area, and has a good base to build on. I don’t particularly want to lose him.

I'd argue his 'audition' was the run towards the finals. Without him coming good, we wouldn't have made the 8.Originally posted by QWERTY View Post

The Sharks validly came good during the finals and it shytes me that we couldn't put them to the sword despite being physically dominant. However, that result's not on a young half doing his best.
Also that game's dead and buried. We can either spend all pre-season and 2026 worrying about it or focus on improving our game.
Coz people love a good Jizzy anecdote, as a competitive runner I'm never concerned about things like some random beating me with a surge at the end of a marathon or my time being a few minutes short of what I wanted. My focus is always on improving my training so that I'm continuously improving as a runner. I dare say that's how most NRL players think as they train full-time and each game/training session stacks on top of the last. Savala has a LOT of room for improvement...Last edited by ism22; 11-06-2025, 07:57 AM.

Except if the powers that be don’t rate them, which they clearly don’t. Not fussed over losing either as Sandon was never the answer & a bit like Kyle was gifted far too many games in my eyes. Hugo had a couple of good games, but also not at the level required to lead the team. He tackles well & can kick, but not sure I’d rate much else. Besides by the time he nails it there are better coming through, which works perfect with the DCE retirement timing. Walker is a then 2years older & Rodwell comes in to partner,or we look elsewhere.Originally posted by Roosterfarian View PostLosing Sandon and Hugo in one window would be an abominable decision by the club.
