Daly Cherry-Evans will march into the Sydney Roosters’ Moore Park headquarters next week and end months of uncertainty over his future.

This masthead understands Cherry-Evans will be officially unveiled as a Sydney Rooster, confirming the game’s worst kept secret.

It’s understood the deal is for one season at around $600,000 with a clause that could allow a further 12 months at the Tricolours.

The contract for the 36-year-old was agreed months ago but has been kept quiet to protect Cherry-Evans from fan backlash at Manly.

However, Cherry-Evans officially becomes a free agent on November 1 and the Roosters will move quickly to get his signature on a contract in a move that is expected to have ramifications for their existing squad as five-eighth Hugo Savala prepares to head to market to gauge interest in his services.

The 23-year-old Savala, a graduate of the Roosters academy, seized on his opportunity this season as he played 21 games in the halves.

However, Cherry-Evans is expected to spend next season playing alongside Sam Walker in the halves, which means Savala will be the odd man out.

The Roosters would love him to stay but he is expected to explore interest from rival clubs as he weighs up his future given the number of promising players who are emerging in the lower grades at the club.

The pick of the bunch is Toby Rodwell, who is part of the club’s top-30 squad and knocking on the door of the NRL.

Cherry-Evans’ official unveiling at the Roosters will coincide with the return of coach Trent Robinson from France and the UK, where he has been helping out the French national side.

He will return to take charge as the Roosters kick off their pre-season next week.

Cherry-Evans announced in March that he was leaving the Sea Eagles at the end of the season, having become frustrated with the club over negotiations for a new deal.

He was tight-lipped all season on where he planned to spend 2026, although it was widely assumed he would join the Roosters for at least one season with a view to transitioning into the coaching ranks.

Really hope Savala stays, however it’s very annoying that we are in this position

Not a lot of direct quotes in there eh? The word 'expected' is used a lot though.

Doesn’t really tell us any more than we already knew. It’s nothing ground breaking. I guess some were holding out for the story that he wasn’t going to come and were taking the radio silence as a sign the deal had fallen through.

Toby Rodwell seems to be the guy they’ve earmarked so DCE or no DCE, Hugo is either going to have to move to the forwards or seek pastures new.

What does Brett mean when he officially becomes a free agent, he has been free to sign elsewhere for 12 months.

I’m not happy about this signing, he is no Cronk and will cost us a few young players.

DCE will make a great whipping boy for the Chookpen. Potentially the best we've had!

It would be nice if he hands back the CC Medal he stole from Maloney.

                    100%

Robbo needs to be moved on if DCE flops and we lose players like Savala to accomodate him.

                    No pressure

My thoughts are already known but to me this is a great signing, he was top 5 in most halves stats in the 2025 season despite being in an out of the 8 Manly side, premiership winner, 350+ games, Australian international, QLD origin legend and has had a hall of fame career, 600k is great money on the deal as well for the Roosters considering some here were saying he'd be signed for 1.0 - 1.1 million.

The spine of Tedesco, Walker, DCE and Robson is easily top 3 in the comp, for mine the only comparable spine is Melbourne. We will win the comp in 2026 or go very close.

Could of started negotiations since November 1st last year for 2026, his contract with Manly will expire on October 31st at midnight

                            Welcome, welcome, welcome .

Hugo will comfortably provide coverage in the backrow and halves when injuries and rep duties arise.

Freshen up dear petals. There's plenty of upside in Daly's arrival.

Pay Hugo enough, he would most likely stay.
He would make a good lock, Whyte to move to prop.
