The game exposed some of the weaknesses of our potential long term halves.

Hugo has a great long kicking game but his ball playing is passable at this stage. It's his first season of first grade however we want to see more from him with the ball in 2026.

Walker was putrid against the Sharks, and that's being generous. His constant crabbing cramps our outside backs and the Sharks easily covered them when we went wide.

In his debut season he was throwing cut-out passes to wingers but they seem to have disappeared. All he offered on Saturday was a telegraphed short ball or waving his hands for someone to run inside him and get crunched. His strength is his short kicking game however this is often hit and miss.

Both Hugo and Walker deserve a full season to prove their worth. But I think the decision to sign DCE has been done for a reason and I fully support it.

    All in all, very frustrated.

we haven't won the comp in the last 6 seasons. for mine this 'failure' ranks as the third most disappointing after last year and 2022 when we were serious contenders but couldn't overcome injuries. this year's team is probably not as good as a fully fit team from both of those years but the difference is that this year there was no obvious favourite. this year was up for grabs and with a bit of luck we could have won it
