The best type of coach seems to be a player who wasn't naturally gifted. Coaches like Bennett, Warren Ryan and Phil Gould were good players but they weren't an Andrew Johns, Cooper Cronk or Allan Langer. They had to learn how to play well so they can usually teach others. It's why Fittler was a great player but a terrible coach.

With that said you could still potentially win a comp with the following combos
Hugo and Sammy
Toby and Sammy
Hugo and Toby
So in regards to next year if Hugo is fit he should be given first crack at 5/8 & if he continues to play like he does I cant see Rodwell pushing him out.
Bloody DCE is going to be given first crack though so I dont think both Hugo & Rodwell will stick around.
Hugo for me has already got the runs on the board & he could get 500k a season at say the Perth Bears or otherwise he has to play 2nd fiddle to Walker, DCE & Rodwell, he's too good not to be playing NRL every week.
Hugo is top shelf in my book.
He just does nearly everything right with composure the biggest skill he has is time he's a rare talent.

Who partners Sammy and who plays NSW cup if DCE becomes a Rooster?
Sticky situation!

Manly has scored only 5 tries in the past month. The whole team. Toops has scored that many in 2 games.
It's not only on DCE but as their chief playmaker it's his responsibility to create points.
Geez it's time for him to hang up the boots, or that the very least head off to ESL.Last edited by SupermanSupportsEasts4Eva; 08-17-2025, 06:19 PM.
