SBW still hasn't signed with Roosters - and there's no guarantee he will

    SIN BIN

Sonny Bill Williams is yet to sign with Sydney Roosters, and fans should not expect any official confirmation that he will be returning to the NRL for some time. In a radio interview, New Zealand Rugby Union boss Steve Tew said he knew what Williams's plans were, but could not say - and sent the rumour mill into overdrive, with reports that the All Blacks star was in Sydney and would be confirming a deal with the Roosters for next season. However, that speculation was wide of the mark and Williams has been in New Zealand all week preparing for the Chiefs' match against the Highlanders in Dunedin tonight. In the meantime, Williams is considering a lucrative offer from Japanese rugby powerhouse Panasonic Wild Knights, while colourful Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal - who was suspended for 130 days earlier this for saying had been the victim of ''refereeing sodomy'' - has recently expressed a desire to lure Williams back to France. Williams, the New Zealand heavyweight boxing champion, is also looking to schedule a fight later this year, possibly in South Africa. The Roosters' interest is well documented and the club has been busy freeing up room under the salary cap to accommodate him next season, but no deal has yet been finalised. Sin Bin understands an announcement on his future could be made before his manager, Khoder Nasser, travels to the United States for Anthony Mundine's July 14 fight with Bronco McKart in Las Vegas, but the announcement is unlikely to be about his joining the Roosters. Williams's anticipated return to the NRL has predictably created much gnashing of teeth among the Kiwi rugby media about his unfulfilled potential, but he will have the opportunity next season to add a Rugby League World Cup winner's medal with New Zealand to the one he won with the All Blacks last year.

        Now, that's funny.

Who says the French don't have a sense of humour?

It's not Williams fault. He is not writing these articles. He is doing what he does best and concentrating on footy.

Hard to stay sane, whilst following a footy team without a sense of humour.

It would appear the Roosters are clearing the decks for someone exceptional, otherwise how do you explain the stream of exits and few incoming reinforcements. Recruiting for next year is pretty much complete, theres only the odd journeyman or disgruntled NSW Cup player still on the market. There are a couple of issues with this

Firstly, will the person, player or coach, have the personnel around them to help carry the burden of the expectations? Secondly, if that person doesn't join, then that leaves the Roosters in a very bad state. One which may take years to recover, as rebuilding a squad is not an easy task to do quickly.

In other words folks, I hope the Roosters get their man or have their man already otherwise, they're in a world of pain.

We have kept all the players we've wanted to keep on after this year though.

We already are but it looks as though they could get worse.
It feels like the idiots that are running this place have lost the plot.Something is obviously wrong, whether it be a player/s or management/coach...or both.

Whatever it is it needs to be sorted asap.
The time has come to get rid of the problem/s......and for chrissake, let the supporters know what is going on.
It feels like we're on a rudderless ship atm.

                      Good post as usual mate.

From an fans point of view I get the feeling Uncle Nick is an oldskool handshake deal sorta bloke. The trouble with that sorta policy, as we found out with Waynekerr, is nowadays that sorta deal in a professional environment means very little.

I mention this cos it would appear that the decks have been cleared for $BW. Now what if, and I'm just speculating here, $BW hasn't actually signed just agreed to terms with the old handshake??? What if he changes his mind??? Where does that leave Easts having cleared a lot of talent for this one signing???

The worry for me, and I gather most Easts fans, is the about face like with Waynekerr. That farked us in the bunghole, and we are still feeling the reaming now coaching wise.

IF this supposed signing goes south Uncle Nick will come under a lot of pressure to retain his hold over Easts IMO. It would seem from what people say and what's said in the media that Nick is the driving force behind the bigger decisions at the club. If his way of doing business hurts again surely it would be time for him to accept responsibility and move aside.

That all said maybe it's signed and sealed, maybe they are waiting for the right time to reveal all. This I hope at least.

This is pure speculation on my part from rumors and what I've been told from those who have some level of knowledge about the workings of the club. I am a mere fan after all, as Fredo would say.

Wouldn't you love to be Nasser negotiating a deal knowing the above??

We let Perret and Mitchell go because we didnt need them. We have also re-signed a few players and signed Maloney, Oldfield and Seluini. Were not freeing up space because we have so much available and a few useless off-contract players. Theres alot of room so its not like we got rid of players to buy him people forget the other players we've signed.
