From an fans point of view I get the feeling Uncle Nick is an oldskool handshake deal sorta bloke. The trouble with that sorta policy, as we found out with Waynekerr, is nowadays that sorta deal in a professional environment means very little.
I mention this cos it would appear that the decks have been cleared for $BW. Now what if, and I'm just speculating here, $BW hasn't actually signed just agreed to terms with the old handshake??? What if he changes his mind??? Where does that leave Easts having cleared a lot of talent for this one signing???
The worry for me, and I gather most Easts fans, is the about face like with Waynekerr. That farked us in the bunghole, and we are still feeling the reaming now coaching wise.
IF this supposed signing goes south Uncle Nick will come under a lot of pressure to retain his hold over Easts IMO. It would seem from what people say and what's said in the media that Nick is the driving force behind the bigger decisions at the club. If his way of doing business hurts again surely it would be time for him to accept responsibility and move aside.
That all said maybe it's signed and sealed, maybe they are waiting for the right time to reveal all. This I hope at least.
This is pure speculation on my part from rumors and what I've been told from those who have some level of knowledge about the workings of the club. I am a mere fan after all, as Fredo would say.

You certainly can afford to have a first year coach when it is someone the caliber of Bellamy! SBW is a lot more likely to stay for longer as well with a guy like Bellamy in charge as opposed to a coach like Smiffy!!

Originally posted by Imadog View PostFirst year coach, that is someone who hasn't coached at NRL Level before. Bellamy, would be the type of coach to get the value out of him. It has become Apparent that the coaches are now the difference between the teams considering how the salary cap has reduced teams to the lowest common denominator.
But I totally agree about the coaches in the sense that they are a massive part of the whole set up of an NRL franchise. Because the NRL has only been full time professional for what 15 years, being a full time coach is still a reasonably new role, there is a few of the 16 FG coaches who have advanced more than others.
With there role being full time they (the good ones) ananlyse the game like a professor analysis his specialty. I think Bellamy dedicates more time to football than anyone else in regards to analysing the game. The way the game is played by 14 of the 16 teams today is based on Bellamy's model, the Dogs are the exception & thats because they have Hasler who IMO puts in like Bellamy does.
Bennett no matter what anyone says knows how to coach. So for me they are the top 3 closely followed by Anthony Griffin & IMO Ivan Cleary. It's hard to judge whether Shane Flannagan is a top coach or not having Carney in your side can have any coach looking good. I actually think all the good smart coaches need good players to get the results but it's Bellamy & Hasler that can get the best out of what others think are ordinary players, continually.

Recruiting for next year is pretty much complete, theres only the odd journeyman or disgruntled NSW Cup player still on the market. There are a couple of issues with this
Firstly, will the person, player or coach, have the personnel around them to help carry the burden of the expectations? Secondly, if that person doesn't join, then that leaves the Roosters in a very bad state. One which may take years to recover, as rebuilding a squad is not an easy task to do quickly.
In other words folks, I hope the Roosters get their man or have their man already otherwise, they're in a world of pain.
