I'd have liked Hunt for his experience. Seems Walker too was happy him coming.
BUT no way at $1.2m that's huge overs. Anyways we'll do the best with what we got.
Mind you the draw is another thing that really puts on the pressure.....but then it's not done for sport it's done for TV $$$

Starting to look like this ship's sailed.
Serious question - is this guy one of the most over-rated in NRL history?
- Single handedly a premiership for the Cowboys while wearing a Drongos jersey (in let's face it a weird year where neither team deserved to be there).
- Buggers off to St George where he's best utilised as a hooker but refuses to play hooker. Plays in the halves after having a sook and is the Dragons' diversity inclusion for QLD/Australia.
- Suddenly he wakes up with 1-2 years left of hia career and decides he's worth $1.2m+. A bidding war follows and he ends up bagging $$$ for... what exactly? The best half available in a conp where all the top-tier halves are locked into long-term contracts that they don't wanna break.
Woulda been a good cheapie who wants a crack at a premiership. However he's not worth $$$. Otherwise the Dragons woulda had a better track record and begged him to stay.
IMO he's like an upgraded Townsend without the premiership to his name. Dunno what happened between Townsend and that fat guy with the nicotine gum who always seems to beat us (due to corrupt as fark reffing, generous scheduling, sweltering 40'C heat with 100% humidity...etc) and then face the presser chewing 10 sticks of nicotine gum, saying 'the comp is corrupt and the refs totally favoured the Roosters out there tonight because they are a Sydney club with $$$ backing'. However IMO he could be a hidden gem.Last edited by ism22; 11-24-2024, 10:13 PM.

We have a good group of younger players mainly from SG Ball who finished strongly in reserve grade at the end of the year. Maybe we are going to put them in the top 30 to stop them looking elsewhere. But I dont think we would be looking at playing many of them in first grade during the year

I’m glad, never liked his attitude, and didn’t want to see him in our colours.

The only thing I can think of is we’ve front loaded our re-signings.
Otherwise whoever’s taking care of the books need to be looked at.

It could very well be that we could afford to go higher for Ben Hunt but the club doesn't want to go that high. Maybe they don't think he represents value for money in which case it's easier to say we can't go any higher due to salary cap issues rather tthen to say 'we don't think he's worth that money'
I'm fine with not signing Ben, but we have holes in our squad that need filling imo. 5/8, hooker, FRF, backup fullback and another decent goal kicker would be handy.

Most fans say they will take under's to play for the team they support, but it's not our income source, the players don't think about that as they have maybe 10 years at most and need to build up a nice nest egg.
If I was a player and Easts offered me a 3 year deal for $500,000 a season and Souths say 3 years at $700,000 a season I'm likely signing at Souths no matter how much I love the roosters. Maybe I would have to really think hard if it was the Tigers but I see them finishing mid table in 2025 and they should be able to improve on that if they are smart.
All the players managers would have a pretty good idea what every player in the completion is on how much space the clubs have to work with.
They would know if we have $700,000 or $3,000,000 available to spend and would be negotiating players we have an interest in around that figure.
They aren't going to tell a player sign with team A on $500,000 when team B is offering $800,000 as they are looking after the financial interest of the player and themselves.
This.
Hunt is an experienced campaigner who is still playing rep footy. Ben and his manager won't rush and get the perfect deal for his last playing contract.
