This makes it more odd with us
did we really not have $600k in the budget?
    or did we pull out
my thoughts are he is certainly worth that - considering the average nrl wage is now $450k I think that’s a steal for hunt

Probably because all other clubs pulled out after only offering him the mid 500k.

same could happen to Brandon Smith, if he gets no offers above 600k, we offer him 550, and that’s what it is.

Raiders have already said they don’t want him, and clubs are more likely to take a punt on Jayden Brailey, soni Luke or promote from within.

There is no one available though and if we sign anyone we'd want them early so they can bed down combos and get them to learn our systems during pre season instead of being clunky in-season.

It just shows how far our recruitment has fallen off. Jeez I'm glad David Fifita backflipped because he is the opposite style of player we need. Selling off Verrils for the Cheese on big money has also flunked. TMay's release has left a hole in an already thin position. I dont know how we turn it around.

I don’t mind that we missed out on him. I think he was planning on returning to the Broncos all along and was just trying to push up his price.

I think you're right here it does feel like the club are targetting big names in 2026/27 (I am not sure exactly who is off contract and when) I know people don't often want to trust NRL journos but it was said by a few of them, Dave Riccio being one that I remember, that the club was going to use 2025 as a chance for young guys like Toia, Sandon Smith, Wong, Whyte, possibly the Va'a brothers to develop and then target players for the year after. IF we are looking at guys like Robson, Ponga, Brown then that gives credibility to the theory.

Ben Hunt didn't play anyone but himself, he was on $1m+ a season to be a starting half back and captain of a club then he sulked his way out on to the open market and had to shop himself to clubs who would only play him in a position he hates and or on a significantly reduced rate far below what he was on at the Dragons. If Ezra Mam doesn't get himself in to the shit then Hunt probably doesn't end up at the Broncos either, the open market didn't want him.
