Good. He might have gone ok but he just isn't a Rooster for me.

I don’t think signing Gagai is about signing quality but rather experience and reliability.
If Tupou was to retire at end of season it’s an extremely raw and inexperienced three-quarter line, even if Tupou does stay on we don’t have a centre with more than 50 NRL games of experience at centre. It’s such a crucial defensive position, I can understand why Robbo is looking for someone he can bank on even if they’re not top end quality.

Hopefully we are chasing the young bloke from Eels that declined them (Talagi). We have 0 depth at FB next year if Teddy gets injured or plays Origin. Our 2 best options in Manu & JS gone & then if we lose Toops we possibly have one of the worst, least experienced back lines in the comp. He’s inexperienced, but then it saves moving a Smith or Young to FB at least.

From memory Gagai got out of the last year of his contract at Souths because his wife didn't like living in Sydney....so the fact he is staying in Newcastle makes sense.
As a player he excelled in the QLD jumper and when he was "on" was a great attacking player at club level. As a defender he can pull off a great front off tackle and then a minute later be a arm grabbing turnstile. He is the type of player that the Chookpen members would crucify!
His experience would have been a asset for us next couple of years but im sure Nick'n'Robbo wouldn't be too concerned missing out
