I think it's the timing of our errors at times that really hurts us. Especially since the intro of 6 again.
The most pressing issue and we have seen it against Manly and Penrith who are both good defensive sides is our plays 1, 2 & 3. Our outside backs are not winning their rucks and as a result we are gifting territory to our opposition. You can't even blame the forwards because they are responsible for plays 4 & 5 in a yardage set and they've been consistently trying to get the ball from the 20m line on the back of slow play the balls into a decent kicking position - I feel sorry for them.

In the first half we were averaging 21.5m per set, Penrith were averaging 53m per set.

Whatever happens after that is largely irrelevant, you're not winning any game of footy if you're not progressing the ball into the right areas of the field. That type of territory creates fatigue and fatigue creates errors which is why I think it can be flawed to talk about errors in isolation. Sure you can draw a correlation between errors and winning but it's the causation that's of more importance and we made errors because we were fatigued from constantly having to ruck it out of our own half and constantly having to defend our own goal line.

Second half we pulled those numbers back which is why we got back into the game but we still finished the game averaging 32m per set which is horrendous.

Our outside backs are not doing a good enough job right now in transition, which is so odd because it's been a real trademark of Robinon's coaching tenure.

Bulldogs will not pressure our outside backs in the same way Manly and Penrith did so I do not think this week will be a good sample to see if we have improved but Suaalii onto the wing is a must for me, his return to the wing last year was a significant reason for our turn around IMO, he just carries with so much aggression out of back field.

Agree that Suaalii needs to be moved onto the wing. Toops, Jenko left centre wing combo whilst Billy Smith recovers with Manu, Suaalii right centre wing combo. I watched Jennings train in January with his sprint coach and he is still very sharp! Toops and Jenko albeit a touch older in the tooth have a connection.

No need to make changes other than players such as Collins coming back from injury and Spencer when he has served his suspension , they just need to be better in key areas during a game. A work in progress and only round 4.

Nor do our halves their first step is across field when see Cleary and luau they straighten and then pass Keary is the worst he cramps his outside players all the time

This is a big issue. Manu gets the ball with the opposition already sliding towards him. He has no option but to step back inside.

We are never going to fix our error rate but we need to urgently address coming out of our end. This could be our big issue all season.

Dom Young is a great finisher but he runs very upright and gets driven back. Tupou is not hitting the advantage line like he once was. This is leaving us clearing on the 30/40m line on a consistent basis. Penrith were starting their sets well over their 30m line all night.

Are you saying you would drop Dom Young?

I would, he can go work on his yardage carries in reserve grade. Bring him back him back up in a few weeks.

The Panthers targeted him on Thursday night and every club will of taken note so theres going to be plenty more coming his way. 16 runs for 87metres is a long way off first grade standard.

Yep! There are critical elements in all positions that effect a teams overall performance. Dom, as flashy as he looks in open space needs to work on his yardage runs, defensive alignments and momentum changing silly errors. He looked great at Newcastle however stands out like a sore thumb in red, white and blue. Bring back Fergo the yardage king. Kidding!

The problem is that the Panthers have the perfect game plan for the Roosters.

They build so much pressure that it tires you out and then suddenly you don't want to make errors.

You become more conservative with the ball and stop playing football (offloading).

Once we started throwing the ball around at the end it broke up Penrith's defence.

This is the key for the Roosters this whole year: keep offloading and using the ball.

They were way too structured and sideways the other night until the very end.

Its weird considering how they often they offloaded in Round 1 against the Broncos (14 offloads?).

Ive said on here already that the Chooks wont win the comp but I guarantee they wont finish lower than 5th.

Why would you drop dom young
he wasn’t bought over as a yardage winger
toops half is and dropped the ball twice
young scored a good try and set up two which I don’t think anyone else could have set those up
also scored v manly which no other player in our team would have got
we finally have speed and someone who will
score over 20 tries this year and set players up
but we somehow want to replace young with a slow yardage winger
wait a week when young scores 3 and kills it and the mood will change

                                Probably agree.

I've got a Penrith v Brisbane GF feeling again. With Melbourne lurking there abouts.

Making a Preliminary Final would be a pass mark.
