  • Bad game or bad year?

Today was.more likely a bad game rather than a prelude to a bad year hopefully.

After 4 Rds we are 2-2 which isn't panic stations.

But once again errors & penalties are a big focus again with a Robbo coached team & wins over Brisbane in a rd 1 gimmick game overseas & a struggling South's maybe give a false sense.of hope.

It's the losses against a tough Manly & clinical Penrith where we have failed important tests.

Our attack with Keary is a real problem which stunts Sam Walkers game.

Robbo's inability to beat the top coaches.

    Suaalii isn't effective at centre.

Manu is our only strike weapon.

Early days but hopefully it's not more of the same as the last 3-4 seasons.

RUN STRAIGHT FOR GOD'S SAKE. Brandon Smith didn't run in the first half.

Just to be clear the completion rates for both sides tonight was 78% and the penalty count was 11-8 our way.

      Going into this game we ranked;
Errors 10.3 per game (10th worst)
      Completion Rate 80% (7th best)
Penalties conceded 6.3 per game (6th worst)

Penalties and errors are not and should not be a big focus, it’s a tired narrative IMO.

Fair enough but the Whyte error just after half time was a killer & took the wind out of our sails big time.

Well we’ve played 1 good game, 2 shit games, and 1 training run against a bunch of blokes who hate the game at the moment.

so all signs pointing to another also ran season where we probably make the finals but are not in the same postcode as the contenders

Penrith made some very simple errors coming out of yardage and in good ball too. It’s Rugby League, there’s no such thing as perfection.

If one error took the wind out our sails then the issue is not the error.

Also I would rather win the 6 agains than the penalty counts which rarely happens.

Penalties give the defence time to reset & catch a quick breath.

You’ve got to get out of your own half to get 6 agains. Not something we have been able to do against Manly & Penrith.

It’s difficult for a dummy half to run when his forwards are getting smashed and being dominated in the ruck.

There's definitely room for improvement but IMO finishing like that against Penrith isn't a bad sign.

IMO a lot of people got over-excited after we throbbed Souffs and the bookies/pundits all overplayed the significance of the Riff losing Cleary/JFH.

Losses are never a good thing but to me the good news is that we're 2/4 from Brisbane, Penrith, Manly and Souffs. IMO if you asked most people if they'd be happy with that during the pre-season then most woulda said YES. Not over the moon but comfortable.

Onward to the Bulldogs and Knights now. If we are 4/6 and top-8 then I'll be pretty happy.

We really missed our two starting front row.
Everyone was banging on about Penrith missing players but we had zero go forward and was dominated in defence.
Lets just get through to round 10 and hopefully we can get a roll on.

Don't forget they had a 5 game turnaround followed by a 6 day turnaround..they played jaded..simple its early in the season bodies cant take it .we got 7 days next week? We will win we'll who ever we play

I still think we can win it but we have plenty to work on.
