  • Pretty bloody annoying result.

All three QLD teams lost big grand finals this weekend (Brisbane in the NRL and AFL and the Titans in the NRLW).

Kinda backs up my theory that you could select the entire Penrith team for NSW SOO and they'd easily account for QLD.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

    • Just watched it again....... amazing effort those last 20, a lot of Penrith's players made great plays which contributed.
Cleary said after that Cogger coming on freed him up....... but he was the driving force.
They all lifted after Leota scored.
Great team effort and a game that will always be remembered by their fans...... like our effort against Newcastle in 2000 is for us.

      • Lessons to be learnt by Roosters coaches and players from this Grand Final.

. ONE mistake can lose a game.
. NEVER do short kicks as goal-line dropouts.
        Never ever ever.

        • Penrith lifted in those last 24 or so minutes and Brisbane couldn't match them simple as that

Penrith are 90 wins and 16 losses these past 4 years - 6 of those losses this year.

I can only remember one game when Penrith were at or near full strength and they were behind by a double-figure score in a game, and that was the 2020 GF vs. Storm, down 26-0, and they came back to lose 26-20.

VS Parra this year down 28-4 but they had Edwards/ Turuva/Tago/Sorensen out and lost Luai early in the match,

Penrith should be firm Premiership Favourites in 2024 and it will take some effort to stop them from a 4th GF win and they could have a few more in them after that.

They will have the nucleolus of this squad in 2024 - Taylan May will be back from his ACL and will slot into Crichton's centre role and they have players to replace Leniu

The Penrith game style isn't reliant on the individual brilliance of one or two players, so when they lose players to other teams, they have ready-made players already trained up on this game style to come into the team as they play as a team, and all players know their roles.

Hence why they can keep winning Premierships

Brisbane will be their main threat in 2024 and others including the Roosters will need to really up their games

1989 was a true classic. But I honestly think that 2019 was just as pulsating and tense as 2015 and last night. TBH 2015 was only good for the last 5 mins and the extra time. I agree last night was above 19. But realistically you could
make cases for 1997 ARL, 1999 and the 2013 GF.
I accept a neutral would have a different opinion. Good to reminisce.

Agreed man. Who knows when this era of dominance from Penrith will run out.. most of their squad are young and they have the best and largest junior nursery in the country.

Gus has set them up for a very very very long time.

It puzzles me how they maintain that hunger after back to back premierships. That combined with becoming the main hunted. It was a combo other teams including us found too tough to combat.

                  • Short restarts are fine, but u must never, ever bat the ball back towards ur try line. It’s probably better to kick closer to 20 metres as well.

The game was there for the broncos when they got the big lead and had possession on Penrith’s line. All they needed was discipline, but they threw a wild pass and gave the opposition a sniff, and it was all downhill from there.

Iff a player can leap and get 2 hands on the ball, why not just catch it rather then bat it back?

Maybe they watch too much AFL—batting the ball to fellow team members like they do in the centre bounce and boundary throw-ins.

Brisbane's ball handling wouldn't have looked out of place in a AFL ruck.
They were lucky to not 20 behind at half time. Penrith had enough ball and chances to win 3 games

Watch the draw the Panthers get for 2024.
They should have to play all the top teams twice.

Don't you just love our first round opponent in Vegas...Broncos.

You jump higher if your intension is to bat the ball back plus it's easier than catching it.

They will play them all twice and beat them all twice.

I felt they needed to win on Sunday to be crowned the greatest team of the modern era and they did so. In the most awe inspiring, backs to the wall fashion against a young wrecking ball of a team no less.
