With Hayne playing a running role and leaving all the direction up to Pearce he dominated, again today we saw the same thing... Anasta only touched the ball 20 times compared to his usual 40-50 touches leaving Pearce to dominate.

Maloney would be wasted as a ball runner so it's inevitable that we'll go back to split halves despite the promising performance today.
Anything anyone is better than the Cat.

While Maloney plays like that for the Warriors his real strength is his running/support play. That's how I would play him.

I noticed that as well. He was moving from one side of the ruck to the other constantly. Played what he saw instead of playing structured. Works much better

I see Maloney as more of a ball runner than an organiser, he hits a hole nicely and most of their play tends to come off Johnson when he's there, indicating that he does the organising around the ruck and leaves Maloney to ensure the edge runners are organised. I think he will compliment Pearce nicely to be honest.

Pearce was excellent yesterday. He has been solid all year and improving throughout the season. It is nice to see him finally using the little brain matter that he possesses. Is PWN the new deathrider of this team? Very quiet after Pearce's recent strong form.

Also good to see Pearce put that kick through from about 30M for Tagive to chase.
He probably thought he finally had someone with speed who could actually chase one of those kicks with a chance of beating the opposition to it.
Then he puts one through on the right and he was the one to chase his own kick for the try.
All the guy needs is something to work with but hasn't had outside speed all year. All of our attack is through him like it was in 2009. Our other attacking option offers SFA just like in 2009.

he did more in one game than your boy Slug Sutton has done in a year.

I thought the same thing Buddy. The kick for Tagive didn't come off but the intent was certainly on the mark. Look forward to more of that.

I reckon the rest of our season will hinge on a fit and firing Pearce. In the past I would never have said that but after his improvement this year it is finally true. He was in everything, and seems to have had a small shot of unpredictability/creativity into his game.

Maloney is not a natural organizer.. The guy had 4 try assists last season.. He is a ball runner and one of the best in the game.

I think that it most of the comments have covered pretty much everything.
For me, yesterday showed Mitch in a light that I hoped was there.
Player rating for me would have been 9.5. He played his guts out & never said die.

If only we could fast forward to 2013 for a decent 6 .....sigh

And guess who he thanks for his form in the past two games? Brad Fittler.

Well - he certainly wouldn't be thanking the current number 6 he plays with now would he? Pearce along side Mortimer - that resonates well with me.
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".

Maloney does all the organising, Johnson is the creator with a running game. Maloney's just a really good support player but he's reliant on the creativity of others rather than his own ability to break the line. Both are genuine halfbacks... we need someone with creativity & fliar.

So, a Todd Carney type perhaps?
