  • Guys, I've had a lot of requests Jack, what happened? What are we gonna do?

Well, I can't answer those questions conclusively, just give some observations. Yes it was a dark day for our country.

I wanted to first speak with everyone who voted in the election, and of course the candidates. So I have been rather busy.

They say the people get the government they deserve and we have ended up with a big majority to the Labor Party, something like possibly 90 seats in the Reps to possibly 40 odd to the Coalition. But unpack this a little. We have two of the lowest primarys for the major parties ever. Labor around 34 % I think to around 32% for the Libs. Labor still wins on that but with a much smaller margin that would bring the next election in 2028 to a winnable one for the Libs. However, currently we could be looking at another decade of Labor government federally. Why so? Remember 65% of Australians didn't vote for Albanese.

Preferences!! I said earlier in the year that preferences were going to be so important in this election. Under our unique compulsory, optional preferential voting system and the increase in minor parties/ independents they are even more so. The general mood was yes we want to show Labor we aren't happy, but the Libs aren't offering a better alternative in this campaign. So...we vote for someone else, preference Labor ahead of Libs and poof! You get this result. So...the face value enormity of Labors win was less an endorsement of how great they are, but moreso how the Libs were seen as not a viable option.

Commentators are going to town on what went wrong with the Libs campaign. If an election were held say late last year it could well have been a different result. But broadly they didn't do proper homework/preparation to run a decent campaign. And left Mr Dutton trying to put lippy on a pig with policy backflips, late announcements and costings. I won't say they buggered up the unlosable, but blew a real opportunity for change for Australia. I hope they don't react by thinking they need to lurch further to the left and copy Labor. That would be a grave error, imho.

Green shoots? 3 seats in Vic could see 2 Teals unseated to the Libs, and our little Palestine activist Adam Bandt losing his seat to Labor. The irony of that seat (Melbourne I think) is that Labor will rely on Libs preferences to unseat Bandt. We all know the real enemy . Oh and Paulines girl could get a seat in the Senate at Jacqui Lambies expense...hope so. The Greens may not have a single seat in House of Reps. Yay!

And our fearless leader who couldn't get hold of President Trump and said he didn't even have a phone, now is all warm and fuzzy towards him. Weak, woke and sending us broke - doesn't change what's in his DNA...or missing.

    • Hilarious. We lost but we won? The first para is a straight lift from Sky News' spin on the result. Absolute nonsense, it's a Preferential voting system, if your first choice doesn't get up, then maybe your second, third or fourth might. Whatever happens, it was a choice of the voter.

You, like the other News meatheads, thought Dutts was a shoe in and by God they'd done their level best to make it so. You, Jaxie, were in thrall to the News propaganda, drunk on wishful thinking, as were your Pen mates, end of story..

The better educated Younguns have hopefully ended the era of ignorant Boomer Working Class conservatism. Clearly they've taken revenge for the Boomer rejection of a fair taxation regime re property investments in 2019 when the younguns saw housing affordability slipping away and their ridiculous parents, often themselves with the arse out, voting to continue privileges for the rich. Most of these younguns were too young to vote back then but they have now.

Albo did have a pretty good draw.....

You think Randy? Both times he had Rupert and the rest of the RW msm to contend with. Maybe you didn't notice?

Curious that our free press, owned by the rich, can never see any benefit to the masses in Social Democracy but we're so lucky to have their fearlessness and determination in other things in which they have vested interests.

Yeah i think so. Nothing the right wing media/News Ltd could do to help Scomo or Dutton. Its like theres nothing Bellamy could do if he was in charge Parra or Titans

Haha yes, I should qualify I'm not sending up RWB here.
The style of humour that's in my mind is back when I used to watch HG and Roy on the telly. They would do their review of all things footy and HG would say something like "Roy you've been talking with Wayne Bennett and...". Then Roy would launch i to his "private" conversation on how he would have been advising WB how to Coach etc. Roy spoke with everyone and advised them on anything.

                  • Very disappointed about the probable wind farms off our coast under Labour ! For a party espousing green values this is the most heinous act of environmental vandalism I've witnessed in my lifetime . SHAME !

                    • no getting away from the fact that this is a disaster for the libs. overseas they're talking about the trump bump and that's partly it but clearly dutton's policies - or lack of them - were crucial. and he went in too hard and mean which was rightly seen as the pot calling the kettle black and was overly ambitious against a first term government
incredible that it was a qld leader who oversaw the losing of so many qld seats. the libs' worst result in qld for decades was overseen by their first qld leader. way to go pete.
good luck to the new government.

Lol, I was accused of being an alt account of said poster. Totally absurd given the history and yet no one banned anyone then.

Yes, in fact I'm pretty sure Connie would be the first off the ship if we were to review discreet references since the edict.

                            • Anyway, back to topic Zoe Daniels (Gucci Greens aka Teals) celebrated and danced on Saturday night claiming victory in her seat. Only one problem....Tom Connell (the new Antony Green) has now called the seat to the Liberal candidate. Oh dear...and the well heeled middle aged women's movement with the gospel of climate and integrity (?) is also fighting to keep Monique Ryan's seat. Watch this space.

All of us, even those with ocean views, need to join in the struggle to meet the 2050 deadline. My heart weeps for you Mr. Crab, but my head says, "Silly ol' bugger"..
