First off, Holden? That ship sailed in 2020. GM pulled the plug and Holden’s been as dead as dial-up internet ever since. No more new models, no more Aussie manufacturing, just memories and overpriced second-hand Commodores.

And Ford? Sure, they used to make cars here—until 2016. Now? Everything’s imported. You might as well slap a “Made in Thailand” sticker on your Falcon fantasies because it’s not coming out of Broadmeadows anymore.

But here’s the kicker: even when they were made here, they weren’t exactly gold-standard machines. Holden and Ford fans love a bit of V8 bravado, but let’s be real—they rattled like a shopping trolley and aged like milk in the sun. If “bogan chic” was a car category, they’d both win lifetime achievement awards.

So maybe it’s time to stop clinging to the past and admit the truth: the Aussie-made dream died—and honestly, it wasn’t that great to begin with.
If you're celebrating the demise of our manufacturing industry you're an even bigger fool than your posts on here make you seem.
    Austalia made some classic cars.
I owned quite a few of them.

Ah yes, the noble defender of Holden, valiantly fighting for the glory days from the trenches of Facebook.

But let’s keep it real, Holden didn’t die at the hands of Labor; it was Tony Abbott who pulled the plug.

BTW I had an Aussie-made Leyland Mini too—fun as hell, but let’s be honest, it was a charming little piece of shit. Nostalgia’s cute, but facts matter.

See, this is the intractably unhinged Sal who effectively tells us all, with this mad dummy spit, that he's in dire need of some sort of intervention. I keep telling you man, stick to the footy statistics where your Sky imaginary universe does not impinge too much.

Reportedly the team at Sky went troppo after 8pm last night - fighting among themselves, blaming voters in an unedifying exhibition of Cognitive Dissonance and giving all of us watching a night to remember. No surer indication that they actually believe the crap they turn out.

Well exactly... and when that football team's Manly, St Merge or Brisbane then magically old mate doesn't give a shyte.

To me he's at least a valid footy fan rather than a bloke who goes around shanking Sherrins in order to try and prove something or other.

I owned a lot more fords than holdens, very good cars for their time.
If you were stupid enough to buy a leyland you deserve what you get.

But the point is you are celebrating our lack of a manufacturing industry like its a good thing. Politicians on both sides of the stupid two party system are equally responsible for this sad state of affairs.

Dopes don't know that Nuclear Power is the future and not pretend wind farms and solar panels which so called climate change "activists" on here don't use whilst they jet off for their overseas holidays contributing more so called "damage" to the climate than the average person would ever do - they won't stop taking such trips - make excuses all the time - buy solar panels and holiday at home

I Predict a tough 3 years coming up under laboring on

When medicos realised as few yeas back that Tradies were gapping them in income earning they threw the "caring profession" tag to the wind and began to focus more on income maximisation. Glorified labourer "tradies" and their greed haven't done much good for the land they love. And why wouldn't you love it when you're down at Mr Wongs on a Friday night with the family and all that cash money.

Can you imagine Plumbers, apart from house painting and bricklaying, the dumbest of trades, being the new aristocrats and popping the Moet corks at the finest eateries and setting their own fees at a time when most haven't had any pay rise for over a decade?

GPs, too, are first aid people essentially - lowest rung medicos. Their level of expertise is not worth anywhere near what they think it is. In Eastern Europe GPs are pretty much just mid range employees. As most now are, Ms Salvo is probably employed by a Med Centre operation and greed is its motivation not, as the King implies, financial desperation.

It's a hard one Eddie, a Capitalist conundrum. Business wants the cheapest costs and so, unpatriotically but profitably migrates to low wage countries ("Going offshore" used to be the aggro bluff response and many mugs admired that, seemingly not realising that it might be their jobs for the chop. We taxpayers, as a result, pay other businesses to employ people here. Clearly, the Libs, as anyone would, saw that as unsustainable back in Hockey's day and they were right, it was a rip off. "Doing something" about our economy is really a socialist thing if it is our government which you expect to play the role, Capital won't want to change its cosy business model.

The Oz economy needs root and branch restructuring as does our tax system. We're a basket case, internationally atm but the same powerful vested interests will block any reform that doesn't appease their greed.

I did-but i always like to surf channels. Like watching a funeral

They turned on Dutton bigtime- like it was all his fault. The most ridiculous was Andrew Bolt who said that Dutton needed to make a public stance and criticise Trump to show he wouldn't be intimidated and also something about it was a mistake not fighting culture wars. He then topped it off by blaming the Australian voters. These old geezers are really experienced at the blame game.

Peta Credlin's head was worth bottling- the same sour horse head she had when Albo won the first time and when she was Tony Abbotts chief of staff and he got rolled.

I didn't see Paul Murrays reaction but i am looking forward to watching Rita Putarna shake her head for 3 years in astonishment about the "lefties losing it" and "lefties have ruined everything". She is a real lightweight twit.

Going through the US channels and the left leaning media had plenty of reporting about Australia joining Canada in rejecting Trumpism- which i personally dont believe Trump was a factor in our election but he certainly had a 100% factor on the Canadian election.

A quick check on Fox News shows they've completely ignored our election. Instead, they were busy airing footage of 'illegal aliens' being deported—clearly trying to distract from the reality that grocery and petrol prices have actually gone up. Just because Trump claims prices have dropped by 98% doesn't make it true.

Thanks for the summary. Credlin’s reaction would be priceless. Apart from her, Paul Murray is the other one that makes Sky News unbearable viewing for me. The other half had it on at the start of the coverage at dinner and I put my foot down and requested (nah demanded!) he turn over to the ABC with Antony Green or one of the commercial networks so long as there’s no Karl Stefanovic!

They're much more into agreeing to same sex marriage the gay community the indigenous Aboriginal Australians, mental health, legalization of recreational drugs, NO to sending our troops to war zones that are not threatening Australia, immigration & climate change, Dutton & the Liberals have the opposite view.
The Greens are appealing to the younger brigade because of their learnings going to school over the last 20 years that climate change is real.
They give their preferences to the ALP so they will again be pushing the ALP to use cleaner methods to try to help keep the planet healthy long term.
Like him or not but Albo knows how to read the room (the Australian people) better than Dutton.
Can you explain what working class backgrounds are though?

It used to be folk from low-income/poor backgrounds who had a basic education and possibly left school early and were mostly employed in low-paid manual jobs and lived in council/housing commission properties.

Is this the lifestyle/ambition that laboring on want folk to aspire too?

What percentage of folk are still "working class" nowadays - even Liber Paddo can't pretend anymore that he is "working class" with his accumulated wealth and mansion retreat down in the wealthy southern highlands.

Laboring on are no longer "working class" either since they were bitten by the capitalist bug big time under Hawke-Keating - not many if any so called poor working class laboring on pollies - gone are the days of a train driver becoming PM (Ben Chifley Labor) and or a Boilermaker -Welder becoming a state premier ( John McKell Labor -NSW Premier).

Not sure the Slime Greens appeal to many as they could lose all their house of reps seats - their General Secretary Bandt could lose his seat,

Climate change occurs whether humans were around or not though - whether ice ages . draughts or floods.

There used to be an ice age every 100k or so years (glacial period) we are currently in an anti-glacial period - last ice age 12,000 years ago

Ice ages are primarily driven by a combination of factors, including variations in Earth's orbit and tilt, and the influence of greenhouse gasses. These changes affect how much solar radiation the Earth receives, leading to cooling and the expansion of ice sheets. The Milankovitch cycles, involving changes in Earth's orbit and tilt, are key to understanding these cyclical changes in solar radiation

Oh my it's not like being a chalkie - 3 year degree and then unleashed in a class room whether capable or not of being a chalkie

Medical Degrees are 6 years ( conditional registration) then a 1 year internship in the public hospital system to obtain full registration - Then Proceed to specialist training which depending on the speciality they have been accepted into can take between 3 to 8 years.

GP's are specialist doctors who have to be across the whole medical health spectrum as they treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment..

10 or so years medical training to be competent as a GP plus continuing professional development to maintain Medical registration and RACGP Membership.

Mrs Salvo as an overseas trained Doctor had to pass the AMC ( Australian Medical Council ) 2 Exams - AMC CAT MCQ Examination and AMC Clinical Examination- then undertake the 1 year Internship in Rural Public Hospitals to obtain full registration.

Mrs Salvo was a Gynaecologist / Obstetrician in the Soviet Union but no chance of being this in Australia so she took the GP pathway.

Mrs Salvo had to undertake the GP training course in Rural Medical practices which included 2 x 3 hour exams plus doctor- patient simulations
(clinical examinations) - 13 stations - folk would present as "patients" with undisclosed medical conditions - needed to correctly diagnose this and provide the appropriate medical care etc. - could not fail even 1 of these stations.

Had to pass all these to obtain the FRACGP to work as a GP.
