Here are some figures from the Israeli military. I hate all war. I hate the fact that some old bastard who is in their final decade or so and have lived a full life can then commit young people to their death. It should be mandatory that heads of state have to send their children or grandchildren to the front lines-so they can feel what it is like to lose a young family member to war

RR Im not across things like you are but can you explain to me why Israel has started bombing Iran?
Im hearing on Aljazeera TV that Israel has bombed an Iranian nuclear site & targeted & killed Iranian nuclear scientists but why has this all of a sudden happened?
As far as I know Iran has not directly attacked Israel, isnt it an act of war bombing another country & do you think Iran will retaliate?
One more question is Iran capable of going toe to toe with Israel?

Iran are attempting to develop Nuclear Weapons and not only for an eventual attack on Israel but Saudi Arabia too as well there is much friction between the branches of Islam.

Saudi Arabia the leaders of Islam and especially Sunni Islam vs Iran the leaders of the Islam Shia religion who wants a greater say and a goal of being the leader of the Muslim world.

Gees MR - One of my Grandfathers signed up for WW1 when 17 in 1915 and went to the Western Front in September 1915 and our Father in WW2 at 18 in 1939 as he was in the militia - I assume the Army Reserve or Territorials as the British called them- Served in North Africa/ Lebanon -Syria then PNG and Borneo.

You have nothing to worry about at all - The DFAT site lists the current situation in any country he may visit - after all he is not being deployed overseas in a military combat role.

Salvo, I had multiple relatives who served in WW1. Grandfather and great uncles who were in the light horse brigade. On the other half’s side his uncle died in WW2 and was a POW in Changi. I have relatives still in the Air Force.. Some who went to Afghanistan. I know about service and war. Many of us do.

To his credit, and despite the bluster, the Trumpster is a peacenik.

What we're seeing is the reason that neighbouring Arab states have formed over time an anti Israel coalition. Having a monopoly on nuclear puts it in the dominant position and it uses that power aggressively. The region should be nuclear free so that a balance of power might be restored.

Having seen, in Gaza, what the IDF is capable of, who could claim the the Israelis are the adults in the room and the others are the worry?

Thanks caz. He’s going to Europe for 6-7 weeks. Unfortunately he added Istanbul at the end where he also flies home from via Singapore. At the time I advised him to skip Istanbul, but he didn’t. This is the part that makes me very anxious. Thanks for your nice, non condescending response. It’s much appreciated. I have shown him the Smart traveller website too. It’s very useful.
