won't make poor m.r. sleep any easier. still can't see that this would make visiting istanbul more dangerous but it does make the situation more unpredictable
He’s on a plane right now heading to London first. I’m hoping he has a great time and I don’t have to stress too much.

    • Most of us, myself included, have regarded Iran as a problem State. For me it was the Theocracy, the religious police and nuclear proliferation but now I see that while it has always played by the "Rules Based Order" and everything about their nuclear development is legit. Who knew? Apparently not our msm. For years now, it's been part of the demonisation campaign

Who also knew that its progam has been monitored and inspected every step of the way and approved by the IAEA (the international regulating authority). There is much play made of the Authority's negative Iran report but that referred to minor breaches. Our msm didn't bother to point that out as far as I know.

By contrast, the Israeli nuclear arsenal is illegal and the IAEA is excluded completely. Turns out Iran is not the evil a lot of us think it is.

If I were leading a country unfriendly with the US, I'd absolutely be developing nuclear weapons to keep them at bay. All this noise about Iran being a global threat for wanting nukes is laughable when North Korea already has them—missiles that can reach Australia and openly state their aim to hit the US mainland. Yet, unsurprisingly, no one dares touch them. As i have said before if Ukraine kept their nuclear weapons then Russia wouldn't have stepped a toe in Crimea-let alone the recent invasion. Russia would have avoided this bit of latest news from Russian Economy Minister Maxim Reshetnikov.... https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/...cession-a89510 However that can be discussed in the Ukraine thread!

Obama had a nuclear deal with Iran that was actually working—it kept their program in check. But Trump tore it up, not because it was flawed, but because Obama signed it. Then he spun a lie that the money Iran got from lifted sanctions was used to build nukes—and, of course, all his dumb arse supporters bought it without question.

Now we have the MAGA far right wing base urging Trump not to get involved in this war- which is absurd when Trump has said he knew of Israels plans to attack, he gave it the green light and they are using US made weapons. However if you want to know how farked up Americans are, that same far right wing MAGA base, including Marjorie Taylor Green, Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon, have urged Trump deploy the military in LA and other democratic led states that push back and protest against the immigration/ deportation raids. When you deploy the military against your own people then the end of your "Democracy Clock" is ticking

that part doesn't make sense. iran getting a nuclear bomb would be bad in the same way that north korea having the bomb is bad.
yes, there's a rational reason why regimes clinging to power would want the bomb but that wasn't in the interest of the north korean people and isn't in the interest of the iranian people

          • If things were switched around & Iran bombed Israel's nuclear site would that of been act of terrorism?

Are you saying Iran allegedly having plans to produce a nuclear bomb is bad, North Korea having nuclear warheads is bad.....so where does Israel fit in? How about the only country who actually used a nuclear bomb in another country?

I think it's important to first understand the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Iran signed it and remains a member to this day. The U.S., China, Russia, the U.K., and France also signed it—and while they're still officially part of it, they've all violated its core principles.

The treaty is built on three main pillars:
              1. Non-proliferation – Non-nuclear states agree not to pursue nuclear weapons.
➤ Iran gets a pass here—they’ve never had nuclear weapons, and there's no credible evidence they have them now.
              2. Disarmament – Nuclear-armed states commit to reducing and eventually eliminating their arsenals.
➤ The "big five" have blatantly ignored this. Instead of disarming, they’ve modernized and expanded their stockpiles.
              3. Peaceful use of nuclear energy – All countries have the right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
➤ Despite Netanyahu waving around cartoon diagrams for over a decade, claiming Iran was "weeks away" from a bomb, Iran has complied with this pillar too.

Yet today, the U.S. and Israel demand that Iran completely surrender, unconditionally.

Given what happened to Iraq, it’s almost surprising Iran didn’t start developing nukes years ago. They probably regret it now—because they’re a sitting duck.

you raise some good issues to which i'd have a nuanced, incomplete response. it's in the too hard basket for me.

yes, netanyahu has been crying wolf about israel's bomb making capability for a long time now - but the ayatollahs have been calling for death to israel for a long time too

Please mate Iran has always played by the rules - that’s an incredibly naive comment from you.

Yes and the North Korean regime has repeatedly used rhetoric calling for the destruction of the United States, for example the official state media has published statements “The U.S. should be reduced to ashes.”“If provoked, we will turn Washington into a sea of fire.” Kim Jung himself has threatened to fire missiles toward Guam (a U.S. territory), and in one infamous statement claimed their nuclear missiles could "annihilate the U.S. mainland.". Then you can add the fact that children are systematically taught everyday that the United States is an enemy that must be resisted and potentially destroyed. I can go on and on but i'm sure you get the picture....

Thing is North Korea, unlike Iran, do have nuclear weapons. They are open about and boast their nuclear weapons are getting bigger and better. with the US as the target. Yet what response do we see from the US? Nil. It's easier to go bomb countries that dont have nuclear weapons- like they have with Iran ( as i said in my previous post was a "sitting duck" for not having nuclear warheads)

The instability in the Middle East has been shaken to the core-again and terrorists groups will be forming in bigger numbers and capabilities all throughout the region over the next decade. You would have to wonder if an unstable Middle East is what the US actually want because they really go out of their way to make it happen.

a regime that has access to the bomb is difficult to attack. no one questions that rr

sure is....but its no deterrent for a terrorist that can strike anywhere in the world where people gather. American aggression in the Middle East always leads to creating a fertile environment for terrorists to recruit and act. Why would this time be different?

It also sends a clear message to the world- The UN and international law means nothing to the US and Israel....and Russia

Seems like the leader of the free world and promoter of peace is China and Xi! Not much the world can say now if they decide that it's time to make a move on Taiwan....

The Iranian regime needs to be taken out as a chief sponsor of international Islamic Jihadist Terrorist Groups. - Hamas , Hezbollah . Houthis for instance and others across the globe.

They would use the nuke bombs not only against Israel but Saudi Arabia as well.
