I seriously doubt that is motive for the initiativeOriginally posted by Dr. Voodoo Man View PostCan you imagine being dumb enough to experience the Pride Round and think yeah, I was worng, homophobia is bad, time to change. Not one person would change their opinion.
I’m sure it is to promote understanding and acceptance for fans, prospective fans, players, future players and sponsors
Your own sexuality is not at risk.. don’t worry

No you got me wrong. I'm not a homophobe in any way. What I mean is if a person was homophobic are they likely to learn better from the NRL? lol the NRL would struggle to organise sex in a brothel let alone change hearts and minds.Originally posted by Monaco's Fan Club View Post

My eldest Sister wasn't able to have superannuation and when She was married She had to re-sign from Her job as it was considered that the Husband would look after Her and She would be having babies etc - Australian Public Service in the early 1970's
It wasn't until 1902 that all Women in Australia of voting age could vote.
You don't want to go down the pathway of despot regimes who don't respect human rights, freedom of expression and speech and what not.
Like Voltaire said " I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it "
Sure people may not like others life style choices , views and opinions but those people also may not like their's.
If there was more respect and tolerance there would be less angst in the world.

The song “You make me feel like a natural woman” by Aretha Franklin has now come under fire from certain groups, and requested to be banned from the radio and streaming services??Originally posted by King Salvo View Post

And this highlights the fundamental problem with all these so called progressive movements.Originally posted by milanja View Post

They rail against inequality or unfairness against a particular indentifiable group...which in itself is a fair cop.
BUT...they go too far and target ridiculous symbolism that alienates joe public to the cause. And then often visit the same disregard/lack of respect on other groups in society that they were originally complaining about for themselves.
The cycle of madness.

That's democracy though whether you agree with it or not - People have a right to protest which ever way they wish to do so under a democracy - It's not China , Russia , North Korea etcOriginally posted by milanja View Post

The Sex Pistols were banned in the UK especially after their appearance on the Bill Grundy Today program on Thames TV putting their Anarchy in the UK tour in jeopardy.
I don't favour any type of censorship myself and times have certainly changed and nowadays you hear much worse so called profanity on TV than what the Sex Pistols displayed on that night.
But this was Britain in 1976 and Mary Whitehouse times - you had the so called Moral Majority in the US as well - Check out the Dead Kennedy's Moral Majority single
A number of venues cancelled their gigs, others the local council wanted them to perform in front of them before allowing them to play which they refused to do and other venues where protesters sang religious songs outside the venue as they thought it was second coming of the devil.
Support groups on that Tour where The Damned, The Clash and Johnny Thunders (Ex New York Dolls) and the Heart Breakers
Queen were supposed to be on that show but cancelled as Freddy Mercury had a Tooth Ache - EMI in their wisdom had the Sex Pistols go on instead and the rest is history.

It's democracy Jack and it's about freedom of speech and as you know on another area of this site the debate about Democracies vs Despot Authoritarian Totalitarian regimes Ideology continues.Originally posted by Jacks Fur Coat View Post

People will say Indigenous folk go too with Invasion day, pay the rent , sovereignty not ceded and voice to parliament etc - put yourself in their shoes though.
Always two sides to a coin and dialogue and understanding of each groups views and position is always the best first option to work out a solution to any problemLast edited by King Salvo; 02-02-2023, 10:44 PM.

IMO it's more about corporate branding and the NRL being seen as a 'good' product for sponsors to back.Originally posted by HunchoRooster View PostPolitics and sport do not need to mix regardless of what side of the fence you sit on.
I dunno where people on here work but most of my recent employers (all large organisations) have had diversity policies. It does a lot of damage to your brand and you can lose a lot of money (plus fail to attract talent) if you are known to be a little bit backwards.
To me it's just not that difficult or controversial to have a few globally recognised diversity days/weeks each year. It's bog standard corporate speak and some people get waaaay too worked up about it.

In reference to your last paragraph, why do you feel the need to label those who don’t go along with your side of the coin?Originally posted by King Salvo View Post
