  • Respect Round

Here they go again falling over themselves to find something to try to educate the masses on what's right/wrong & how to think.

The NRL earlier announced that due to a large majority of coach's & club officials who voted against having a pride round this year they will instead likely have a Respect round instead.
Clubs are worried about the Manly type of fallout derailing their seasons.

Only 33% voted yes (Robbo would have) so will there be the shame & hatred towards the 67% who voted no?

I vote for a " Leave me the hell alone to just enjoy footy round"

    Stupid idea.

Why does almost every round need a cause now? Especially decisive ones suited to the woke. (Cue Sally of course)

Like you said, how about a ‘just play footy’ round.

Politics and sport do not need to mix regardless of what side of the fence you sit on.

It is the job of clubs officials, coaches and players to operate at a high level in the sport of rugby league and play within the rules and foundations of the governing body of rugby league. Nothing else. These rounds are virtue signalling of the highest order and I'm glad that we won't be subjected to it this season. Blessing in disguise for us as I can guarantee we would've had a similar situation to the "Manly 7".

The Rugby League community is barely ready for a Respect Women Round, let alone a Pride Round.

It's still a sport primarily followed by Neanderthals so if I was the NRL I'd drop the concept of themed rounds altogether.

Why does the NRL feel the need to virtue signal like this? It is really childish way to market themselves.

Sport plus politics equals oil plus water. Forcing respect is not how respect is earned. If they wish to raise awareness for whatever cause du jour, at least rebrand it to something other than 'respect'. Yelling out slogans of respect to football fans is just pulling dead bodies out of the river, instead of heading upstream to find out how they got there. If (insert cause) is a serious problem, then fix what causes it. If I attach a 'Save the Pademelon' sticker on my car it won't save any pademelons and it won't prove that pademelons actually need any assistance. The well-being and the fate of pademelons will remain almost exactly the same regardless.

You're here and then you're not. Live like it's your last.

This is anything but virtue signalling.

It's just plain old sitting on the fence. Better off doing nothing than having a respect round.

You mean Respect Round is a softer version of Pride Round?

They've made it look worse by trying to be everyone's friend now.

Seriously? I wonder if the NRL have a target to theme every single round some day.

No it is classic virtue signalling.

Taking the moral high ground and telling people how they should think and how to show their values.

We shouldnt have any bloody special days Ive decided. Just celebrate the great game and the uncomfy truth (,for some) that its already inclusive and welcomes, embraces one and all.

They wont ever propose a white middle class Christian conservative male appreciation round....and nor should they.
