First play the winner of 4th v 5th, Second play the winner of 3rd v 6th. Then the GF.
As you said it's a money grab and theirs no way the NRL will get rid of it. The more fans from the more teams that have a chance of playing finals means that interest and revenue continues longer in the season.
I have never seen as big a disparity between the quality of sides as I have this year, the 3 top teams are streets ahead of the rest even allowing for all the injuries. Some of those teams are ten's on in a two horse race against other top 8 teams this weekend. The comp is starting to look like the premier league or some of those other big soccer leagues where only a few teams have a realistic chance of winning the title.

With a 16 team comp ideally it should be top 5 or top 6. This year the top 8 is testament to that cause mediocre teams like Knights and Sharks are playing semis and they are rubbish sides. Bloody broadcasters would have a Top 16 if they had their way.

top 6 probably gets it right but as people keep banging on about no team wins it from outside the top 4 so no harm done.

benefit of top 8 is revenue (can't be sneezed at) and keeping more teams interested during the round robin for longer.

this season is horter...out of the top 4 win is not out of the question ...just technically no one is good enough to do it except canberra if thats where they end up.

I would go with a top 5 - the minor premiers get a reward of a week off in the first round of the finals.

In the ideal world, I would also reduce the amount of teams to 12 so we could have a full home and away 24 rounds.

Yeh we really need to fear Bellamy’s drive after knocking them out the last two seasons.

              Doesn’t Robbo have any drive?
Sounds like you’re a Storm supporter.
Ok I’ll try not to question your intelligence again but you’re making that quite difficult.

I can’t stand Bellamy and what he has done to the game but his record of winning speaks for itself. Yes we got the better of them the past couple of seasons but to underestimate them and how much he will want to get revenge for 2018/19 would be silly.

I’m confident we can beat them but they are obviously a dangerous opponent. Pointing that out does not make me a storm supporter.

Sorry Maxy for calling you that. You are obviously a passionate Rooster like me.

In terms of Bellamy’s drive I am confident Robbo’s just as highly driven and we have knocked them out the last two years and I can’t see this year being any different.

Couldn't agree more! Rewards mediocrity. It's all about money from gate receipts (which won't mean much this year).

i cant see the panthers beating the storm or the roosters in a final.

How would a top 5 work? I was a bit young to remember how it was early 90s

Did the minor premier get another week off if they beat 2v3 winner the week later?

                          Yes
The minor Premiers would get the week off in week 1 & they would get another week off in week 3 if they won their game in week 2.

Now that is just reward for finishing minor premiers!

we were so dominant in 75 some thought jack had us deliberately lose our first semi cos he didn't want us only playing 2 games in a month

At the time it was seen to be possibly disadvantageous to miss a weeks game time and lose momentum .. Great times when year 10 tradies worked through the week and played rugby league on a weekend . 1975 is the benchmark but I think the 2020 roosters can be just as inspirational !
And how special would that be? Go the mighty Easts !
