  • What has gone wrong this year?

Well this question has been asked many times before, What has gone wrong this year that places us at the bottom of the table?

I read a couple of weeks ago in a newspaper that we are having trouble adjusting to the 2-referees system and we're too slow. I do concur with that I've seen us a lot this year and we are struggling to cope with the 2 referees system.

What do you think has gone wrong?

A lack of confidence has certainly been instilled; they all have loser attitudes.

after installing Fitler as coach, and having a few wins,we assumed, that everything would fall into place....slack off season in regard to sharpening an strengthening our side...failed to see within the trial games, the fragility of our defense and our limited attack play(only trials after all...she'll be bananas).
Once the obvious was was seen as delivered, the headless chooks who manage the club were too incompetent to do anything.

I feel that Symonds and Jones have been outstanding this year, Friend is getting better and better, Cherrington and Nuuausala will continue to improve, and clubmen like SKD, Perrett, Paea will continue to give their all, regardless of the occasional inconsistency.

The problem has been around the team not playing as a whole. Pearce and Friend have often got very very little support from the rest of the team, and thus, are under pressure on a regular basis. O'Meley, Mason, Anasta, J Aubusson and Sa have not been in the best of form either.

We need to bite the bullet, and prioritize the development of the following players for the rest of the season in my honest opinion:

                            - Isaac Maliota (massive Islander forward who has loads of ticker)
                            - Dane and Boyd Cordner (angry Novocastrians with mongrel and size)
                            - Dylan Sharp (tough and mobile workhorse backrower, leadership)
                            - Luke Towers (lightning utility back, with skill, pace to burn, and guts)
                            - Olireti Samuela (nippy rake, provides spark off the bench, and niggle)
                            - Ryan Williamson (tall rangy strike centre, aggressive very very fast)

Throw these names in the barrel with players who we have already began to build, such as Jake Friend, Tom Symonds and Ben Jones, as well as relatively more experienced 'rookies' like Mitchell Pearce, Sam Perrett, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Mitch Aubusson, James Aubusson, Setaimata Sa and FP Nuuausala, and we will have a VERY young, but tremendously talented squad of players that are mostly developed by us. We need to build a good culture, using pretty much exclusively developed players that are all in their youth, led by Anasta at lock, Pearce at halfback, Carney? at five-eighth, and Nate Myles and Lopini Paea up front, and then really show the NRL what we are made of.

All the above is very impressive...my concern is that we have little ability to bring their talent to the fore....for instance, look at Jimmy Aubusson, wonderful talent wasted, his confidence and skills were shot to pieces, his natural gameplay, virtually non existent(maybe coaching induced).
Next year, like to see him at half, with NO restrictions on his creativity.
