I’m reading a lot in the media today about respect and disrespect. Apparently the crowd were disrespectful to the ‘great’ Billy Slater for booing him every time he touched the ball, his name was mentioned or he appeared on the big screen. Well what about the disrespect the NRL showed league fans by letting him off on the shoulder charge treating us like fools. Or the disrespect the NRL showed by allocating the season ticket holding supporters by giving them seats behind the in goal area rather than decent seats. Or hiring a band noone knew or cared about. Or Billy’’s theatrical fake dive to try and get a penalty. Or Munster’’s cheap shot kick to the head. As we saw last night, respect is earned - like Cronk’’s bravery, cheers for Thurston’’s illustious career or Daryl Braithwaite unexpectedly appearing to sing at half time. On the other hand, the Storm got what they deserved. A grubby, wrestling, salary cap cheating, entitled team that has lost respect for changing the game for the worse. On the other hand the Roosters have brought pride, respect and class back to the game. You’re welcome NRL; you’re welcome.

In the Storm press conference Bellamy and smiths parting shot is about Slater being booed.... bunch of sore losers!Originally posted by Grant Hedger View PostI’m reading a lot in the media today about respect and disrespect. but on something you say about the band Gangs of Youth. There are a few ads on TV that feature their music and they have won a few Arias. I only knew of them because of my Girlfriend because I am not listening to radio or music shows featuring new bands. I tend to stick to the oldies but they are popular today. I thought their performance was good.

Very good post. Last night and the premiership as a whole was about being earned. We certainly earned the spoils this year.Originally posted by Grant Hedger View PostI’m reading a lot in the media today about respect and disrespect. While I agree in part, booing during the game is fine, but after the game, while the opposing team are receiving there medals and the opposing captain is speaking, that is truly poor form from the crowd. If that was Boyd retiring after a GF loss you all would be filthy if he was booed. Despite what people think of Billy, he deservered s little more respect then what was shown last night
just my opinion though

Booing's a part of footy. Still, I for one will miss watching Billy play. He shouldn't have got off the charge, but I'm glad that he did.
Thought Bellamy and Smith were good in the Press Conference, acknowledging that we were the better team. It's not easy losing a GF and they handled themselves well.

I can see where you are coming from One Eyed Willy and I would generally agree with you. I don't really like players getting booed.Originally posted by One Eyed Willy View PostWhile I agree in part, booing during the game is fine, but after the game, while the opposing team are receiving there medals and the opposing captain is speaking, that is truly poor form from the crowd. A couple of counter points though - 1. Boyd won't be booed because he doesn't offend anyone's sense of what is right, he simply plays his guts out every week for a club he loves and doesn't ask for, nor receive any special favours and 2. I suspect a lot of the booing was directed less at Billy the great fullback, whom we have all marvelled at and enjoyed watching and more at Billy the bloke that worked the system to play, and Billy the bloke that didn't earn the Origin Player of the Series but was gifted it anyway (neither of which are his fault - so it's about the powers that be taking the piss as they so frequently do).
So, yeah, I booed as loud as I could. Just as I did in 2013 when Cherry-Evans was given the Clive Churchill Medal.

The grub already had an overdose of "respect" from the NRL. Getting off a suspension, being given "Man of the Series" in SOO when he didn't play in the whole series, agreeing to send his dive in the Keary field goal to the video ref...
Tough titty Billy. You should be thankful your legacy won't be tainted by your long history of grubby play and poor sportsmanship.

To be honest I don’t like the booing either but.....it wasn’t as if everyone in the crowd contacted each other in advance to coordinate their response to Slater. It was a spontaneous response of a crowd who was sick of the protected species Slater had become and the preferential treatment he has received. Even before the shoulder charge fiasco, there was the laughable Origin player of the series, then those perpetual dives for penalties from quick taps. And then to cap it off, we had the dive on the field goal attempt. The fans love champions but they don’t like to be treated like fools. No one in that crowd planned their response, rather it was the unfiltered reaction of a crowd who dislikes being disrespected.Originally posted by One Eyed Willy View PostWhile I agree in part, booing during the game is fine, but after the game, while the opposing team are receiving there medals and the opposing captain is speaking, that is truly poor form from the crowd. I didnt boo Slater whenever he got the ball I was just screaming out hit him smash him and cheered every time he was tackled. There are two sides to Billys game The brilliant fullback that he is which he has been lauded by all and sundry for being. Then there the grubby side of his game that all the fans have seen but the media and NRL as a whole time after time after time turned a blind eye to. This is why he was disliked. Yeah I booeed him when he waled off the field only because I dont like being told over a PA system how I should act towards a player. The look on his face when he got booed off the field was priceless. He was not happy about it.I respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

After all the crap slater has got away with his whole career, I think it was fitting that he got booed at every opportunity. The little whinger cant help himself trying to bluff the ref after our field goal, and he had to nerve to say how his judiciary appearance ruined his preparation.
BOOOOOOOOO
