He had gun backs outside of him and did as well as he could just to deliver them the ball. Also let the veteran steer the ship in Maloney which was definitely instructed, he didn't feel the need to try and come up with the star play. Was very calm and defended srongly. I'm not saying he is a must or isn't a touch over hyped, but I think he is pure quality who is coming along very nicely. I'd like too see him in our colours without paying stupid money
I don’t think we get him unless we pay stupid money that’s the dilemma
he wasn’t terrible, his kicking game was in both games.
I just think he has a LONG way to go as he has received so much hype. Not his fault, but Munster, Ponga, Mitchell all showed that the hype on them is deserved

He didn't deliver the outside backs the ball, only Maloney was doing that. Cleary always does 1 of 2 things; runs 5 metres sideways and does a switch with a forward, or takes a couple of steps sideways and throws it to the nearest player for a hit up without actually taking the line on.

He was calm because he didn't do anything, just sat back and let everyone else do the work. The only reason he didn't come up with a star play was because he isn't capable. He tried going himself a couple times but only made 3 metres or ended up running in a circle. They should give Keary a crack over him

I disagree he is just a young bloke feeling his way into the big arena .thought last 15 minutes he got better and into it running at the tine and pulled off some great tackles. What was A.Johns doing at 20 yrs? subbing as a hooker.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

Terrible kicking game, ok defence apart from a nice covering tackle. Yes mistake free but very ordinary start to the great white hope that is Nathan Cleary.
Guys like Munster burst onto the origin scene. Look at Ponga and Mitchell. Cleary IMO is a reincarnation of Pearce. Everyone telling him how good he is and what he is going to do in his career. Let the kid find his feet, he’s not going to be the great half everyone thinks he is
Cleary has not run the ball as much since he had the leg injury and his kicking game has suffered since gubb from the raiders hit him with a cheap shot late. When Roberts got sin binned he got the job to mark up on inglis which he handled with a man short in the line. I'd agree he wasn't outstanding but he held his nerve. I would guess he has won as many games in the last 10 minutes in his short career that Pearce has in his. I think he will end up winning a premiership or two in his career . Anyway just my opinion that he would be worth having a crack at.

Contrary to popular belief on this forum, one of the biggest reason,s we signed Cronk and moved the other bloke along was his ability to mentor both Lam and OSullivan on and off the field, for the extra 150 k Cronk cost, we got a coach and role model for our young blokes to work with, but let’s not let the truth get in the way of a good story

Cleary did nothing to damage his reputation in both of his State Of Origin appearances. There were no deer in the headlight plays, he handled the pressure well and his defence was good. Keeping in mind the exposure he has been under added to him returning from a serious knee injury. I think he has done everything Fittler expected. Maloney and his outside backs have received decent ball and it's obvious that's the way Brad wanted the game played. His positional play has been good and his concentration hasn't lapsed. Both sides have given us great games and there is hardly a split match between them.

Cleary is not a great running half which showed up late last season, but it's a part of his game that he can improve with experience. At this stage of development I think - like a few others on here - that Ash Taylor has more tricks in the toolbox. But he is worth exploring post 2019 depending upon how our young halves go. It's been clearly stated that mentoring was part of the reason we brought Cronk on board, so it will be interesting to see how that plan plays out. So far our junior halves are coming along nicely.

It is amazing how long term Easts focus is..

One of the main reasons Cronk was signed is to be SOS's mentor bringing him into first grade for 2020.

Obviously things can change but that is the plan...

People only see what they want too, since he has joined Wyong full time they are 4 wins and a draw from last 5 games, Motm in residents game against men, being brought through the correct way, with Cronk as his mentor, the kid can play and there is no need to pay huge dollars for someone else.

Cronk was chased not because we are a better chance chance of a premiership in the next 2 seasons( even though we are) it is ensuring our young halves are ready and we contend for the next decade.

With young guns like SOS, Lam, Sitilli, Farmer Silly, Radley the future is great, bring in a couple of big boppers to compliment what we have and this club can be a dynasty

                              I didn't realise this.
He will also have the entire 2019 season playing in whatever reserve grade team we have.
                              I guess Cornish is surplus.
