  • Backline depth for 2012?

Isn't anyone else worried about our backline depth for 2012 with Phil Graham and Linnett gone? We look really thin there. Peni IMO isn't really tested out in first grade properly either. Looks shaky under the high ball.

Does anyone know if we have/are going to sign anyone else?

    + Is Sam Latu staying?

          So we've got:

          Anthony Minichiello
          Sam Perrett
          Shaun Kenny-Dowall
          BJ Leulia
          Peni Tagive
          Adam Henry
          Cheyse Blair
          TauTau Moga
          Sam Latu?

          + others.

          Peni is hardly proven.

I say we give the new breed a go, it's working well for the Broncos.

As posted in the other (probably the wrong) thread:

I still think there is another outside back to come onto the books.

At the end of last season it was identified as an area we were short in. Fast forward 12 months and we have lost Linnet and Graham, JCarney's potential has not been realised, Naughton has been tried and didn't look to be up to it (or have the potential to get there), Mini is a year older and all we have got on the other side of the ledger is Tagive!

I still think Kheirallah has potential to be a first grader (though many others on here don't). But we are still very thin in the backs.

I know we have some young blokes coming through, but they will not be at first grade standard for a while yet. It is a big step to first grade.

We have a guy surname Rona playing centre for the under 20s, saw him playing 3 or 4 times, he looks good to me, Tall strong steps well and looks for support, plays right centre. I'd like to see him get a run this year

Every one of our NYC backs (Alofa O'Sullivan Taripo Blair Moga and Rona) have the potential to play first grade. I can't see any of them being blooded before this year is out.

I like the fact we have some speed in the backs again. Alofa Kheirallah Taripo Moga and Pritchard are all very very fast. I'm sure Kheirallah would have played more wing in first grade this season if he was 4 inches taller.

It's a shame we're losing Henare Wells to the Titans. That kid is a deadset tryscorer and is quicker than any of the players mentioned above. Error prone when it comes to retrieving kicks but once he gets that out of his game he will be first grade fullback for the Gold Coast. Strikes me as very Dugan-esque.

Adam Henry, the few games I have seen, continues to impress. Can play 5/8.

I like the look of Amos Roberts's cousin/nephew in the vermin U20's.
Plays fullback, very quick, has a good sidestep, defence suspect.
                              A star in the making!
