I doubt it, he's only played 4 games this season.

Nup and he's 'young Kurt Gidley' now lol.

'Upstart Roosters playmaker Connor Watson has earned a reputation of being a 'young Kurt Gidley' in his debut season at the Tricolours'.

'Young Kurt Gidley' has fortnight to fight

Surely he's better than Gidley already? :P

He's been one of their best this season.

He's by no means a bad player. Though I doubt he has a future here, Connor will overtake him soon enough.

What stood out to me was Pearce's comment that people LIKE Watson. Clearly Hastings failed in this regard (and Keary has at Souffs too most likely?)

Being liked is 50% of any team sport IMO. As a youngster I took up sprinting because I'm shyt3 at social networking (and didn't drink - so never had beers with the footy boys). With sprinting the only factor was who go over the libe quicker... and even then you weren't guaranteed a spot in the relay team based purely on merit.

I dunno how people make others 'like' them, and for that reason I feel fo Hastings. IMO he tried really hard (even when injured) and coulda had some totally legit points (e.g. 'Friend never passes it to me although I'm the 5/8...'). But what's done is done and I'm glad Watson has fired this season.

I wonder about Keary though? My worry is that we stonewalled a less popular kid... and not because he was a bad player! (I still roll my eyes seeing SST do conversions). If we're gonna take on Keary, IMO we need to be ready to accept that he's not the coolest guy around... he's not the wild kid who everybody loves... he occasionally speaks up for himself when others won't (which can give you a 'little b!atch reputation if you're not the cool kid)... but that's okay! He's a quality player and IMO he'll grow on us if we give him a chance. Stonewalling like we did with Hastings is NOT an option. How can Friend be seen as an amazing captain off-field when he was unable to fix his beef with Hastings off the field, and was passive aggressive towards him on-field (even if it meant losing by 2 points). IMO a true captain connects with 'the boys' and 'the outsiders' as well. A lot of good players (and workers in general) are unloced, under-rated outsiders because they are a bit different.

Is Keary only "unpopular" because he stood up to Russell Crowe?

If that's the reason then I'm a fan of his!

He has wanted out since the start of the season. Hard to be motivated when you can't stand the coach or the owner.

I am excited because he can do all that Watson can do plus he has a passing and kicking game. I can't wait to see him play for us next season.

We knew that our premiership window would close after last season and that was even before they messed up Roger and Jackson didn't fire.

It would not surprise me if St.George make a big play for Watson offering him a starting position in the halves.

Hastings is the right fit for them. I want that to happen.

Let them. I wouldn't be matching any big money offers. Pearce and Keary will do well together. Matterson and nikorima are handy enough depth players. Wouldn't be surprised if Hastings went to Melbourne. They haven't replaced green have they?

I agree. I think keary will be a really good signing for us. I hate the little **** and he has the stench of a bunnies jersey still on him, but once people can view him in our jersey without the souths bias I think they'll be surprised.

Who knows, if Pearce can stay off the grog in the off season and maintain his current form then we should definitely be in the 8 next year
