  • Kane Evans

In the wake of criticism levelled at Hastings, Guerra & Toops, i'm surprised Kane hasn't been singled out.

I am personally not at all convinced by Evans and I think we should be sending a rocket up his arse, give him a stint in reserves or replace him with a new prop

His defence and ball handling are abysmal - simply not up to first grade standard. And for a man of his size he never dents the oppositions defensive line. His hit - ups have much less potency than Liu, SST, JWH, Napa and Moa. Can't offload either - he tries but it always ends up dribbling out of his hands and into the clutches of the opposition.

He is deadset the big weak link in our front row.

Question marks over desire and attitude too from what I can see on the field body-language wise.

Played much better last year, but then again didn't everybody (minus those that have left). There is a cancer is the playing group..........time to bring in the dreaded sports psychologist.

Evans performances are on parr with the majority of our team and until we win atleast 2 games in a row things will unfortunatley remain the same.
Its my belief that losing can easily become a habit and teams can forget how to win,

I think Evans is guilty of trying too hard. I think his errors/penalties are generally a result of him attempting to spark something for the team whether that's over-aggression from trying to pull off a big hit or a silly offload trying to create something.

In saying that though I think Vunakece has surpassed him as the 4th choice prop at the moment based on performance, I think he deserves to be dropped and I said so in another thread but unlike the others who should be dropped I don't think it should be done with the intention of being a kick up the bum but as a continuation of his development because I don't think it's his attitude or effort that stinks.

Sam Moa is very close to dropping out of our prop rotation, whether that's at the end of this year or next who knows but what's a certainty is that someone will need to fill those minutes and after Napa & JWH, Evans is our most talented prop. I'd be dropping him back to reserve grade, giving him big game time (60min+) and telling him to base his game on blokes like Aaron Woods and James Tamou who have mastered the art of being able to stand in the tackle and offload without the risk of error that Evans currently plays with.

Evans is still only 24 which for a prop is still baby years, if he can put his talent together and find some balance in his play he's still got another decade ahead of him in FG.

I wouldn't be keeping him out of First Grade for too long though. I really like him and I think he has the ability to be a top class front rower.

Good point. Evans has been a disappointment. Also Moa just can't bend the line like he use to.

Evans has been the 3rd biggest disappointment this year behind the two gutless plods Tupou and Guerra.

He's been awful. Contrast that with his 2nd half of 2015 where I thought he was on an upwards trajectory towards rep footy in 2016.

Very harsh call for a bloke who gets limited game time EVERY week.....about 20-25 minutes but during this time Kano rips in and works his butt off. Take a look at his stats they speak for them self.

Like R6 indicated Kane is guilty of trying too hard but I won't hold that against him.

When your team's playing crap people look for scapegoats.

I'll answer your question because i'm interested to know what angle you're trying to come from.

Admittedly I wasn't gifted and didn't reach dizzy heights but I played in the East juniors from u10's to u17's until I decided to give it away due to ongoing knee injuries.

                        So, what about you?

To be an avid rugby league fan and have an opinion does one HAVE to have played in the code for 15 years with distinction?

If you are suggesting that you must have played the game to have a valid or credible opinion, I suggest you block me because I've never laced up a boot.

I agree Evans has been below par but I'm not sure he is used the right way. I can't comprehend why he isn't used as a wide running forward. Decent speed but more so with his offload would attract some defenders out wide and be able to offload to some quick men. Get the big fella running at some smaller men, the hard stuff in the middle will never be his go.

I agree - he'd be wreaking havoc out wide. It's ridiculous that he doesn't get an opportunity there.
