I think the point a lot of people are missing here isn't the tactics of bombing to the corner. It makes sense, however it is the execution which too frequently let's him down. More often than not Pearce will put up a bomb on the 40 metre line and it will land around the 20 metre line. If you look at the halves in the NRL with the best kicking games like Adam Reynolds, Cooper Cronk, dare I even say Trent Hodkinson, they will land it almost always between the 10 metre line and the try line.
Guys like Reynolds will also often put up the spiral bomb, or the one that just drifts and then drops. Pearce's are almost always end over end which make it a lot easier to catch. If you ever watch the warm ups you will see Aidan Guerra ocassionally put up a bomb or drop goal attempt, he actually kicks the one that doesn't spin or go end over end which has a tendancy to change trajectory at the last moment, he can also kick a pretty good drop kick, yet Pearce doesn't seem to practise these at all when watching in the warm up.
