  • There is the difference...

between Pearce and Hastings, in tight games Pearce will hide and panics, Hastings gets involved, wants the ball and is a cool customer, with Maloney obviously moving on next season, these 2 will compliment each other nicely

It is in the DNA, if you wanted to breed a halfback would you be mating a lock forward or a halfback?

I was really impressed with how the young guy went, I think he should do well next year if Maloney leaves to greener pastures. Hastings will be what all wanted Pearce to be some one to steer the ship.

I don't think Hastings will be an organiser, he's definitely an on the ball half and will create a lot but I think the organisational requirements would take away from what he does best. Leave that to Friendy and Pearce.

What we didn't see tonight is just how busy a player Hastings is. Just let him buzz around and play what he sees.

In saying that still a lot to happen on the retention and recruitment front first.

I assume that this week Trent "Robbo" Robinson can coach.

Hastings will one day play for the Kangaroos.I've been of this opinion for some time.I'm a fan and there are too many positives about his game to list.

I'm also a fan of Pearcey and Maloney. Mitch has also played in a number tight matches and none more important than the 2013 GF.

Pearce and Hastings are very different players imo. The 2 major differences are their strengths.

Hastings is very composed. His decision making under pressure and in the red zone is 1st class. This aspect of his game is well advanced for his age.

Pearce adds spark to a backline. His ability to take on the line and his passing game has produced plenty of points over the years.

They have the potential to make a balanced pairing next season and both have a solid D game.

Was good to finally see Hastings in a full game, while the lack of possession for most of the first half, curtailed his ability to attack, he was busy in defence, and busy organising players to be in position for defence, so a very good introduction to fulltime NRL footy. In time I will be looking at what he brings to the table, attack wise, I'am hoping he makes the grade, would be so special to see him achieve a career, at the club his father spilt blood for

                  Hastings D was top shelf
He & Pearce will make a great defense better
The maturity & confidence is abundant with this player, he never blinked under pressure, in fact he looks to thrive when backs are to the wall
Also a nice weighted short pass which Maloney still has problems with this late in his career
                  He's the right package

Jackson did his job last night and he did it well from what I could judge. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out as three into two don't go.

I'm so proud of the KID. First full game against a huge team like the Warriors on their turf and he pulls off a composed game like that!

Where are the naysayers now on this forum? You know who you are..the usual suspect that slam everyone's opinion. He is particularly quiet.

                          IMO the difference was that:
                          a) We were ahead, so the Warriors' timekeeper stopped the clock ASAP (so that we couldn't run down the clock and be negative like the Sharks were... all on our time because the clock kept ticking why... because we were behind and they are cheating farks with the clock!)
                          2) Scores were then even under the same circumstances. During the Cronulla game the Sharks were already ahead, so it was never in their interests to stop the clock.
                          3) 5 minutes turned into about 20 seconds with the Sharks waaaay too easily, forcing us to rush and panic on our last attacking set.

IMO this does not prove that Pearce goes missing. He tries his hardest. It just proves that the Warriors weren't cheating farks with the clock (because they were either even with us or behind).

This is something I think needs to be examined because the home team always seems to be able to waste time while 5 minutes turns into 20 seconds. Sure they can celebrate and congratulate each other if they are ahead BUT... that's supposed to be on their time, not while the clock ticks down. IMO Sharks shoulda been penalised for wasting time.

IMO we won and lost both games respectively. However, I think the context impacted our nerves and the two can't be compared side by side.

Young roosters halfback brought through early with huge wraps and a famous name - oh the irony. Wonder how the weight of unrealistic expectation will sit on this ones shoulders

You are basically making that call on 1 FG game. Don't see how you can come up with that until Hastings has played at least 10 or so FULL first grade games.
