exactly right Rooster Cogburn. I love Braith like everyone else. But if we miss out on someone like Kennedy, Because we sign Braith to a large contract, i would be shattered!!

I'd be surprised if management took a petition to heart. Do you think they would have kept Fitzy with a petition? Will they keep Mini with a petition? And they are ten year players. Good luck with the petition but now that we have Carney at 5/8 and plenty of young talented backrowers, I think age has caught up with Braith like it did with our previous captain. I doubt he would play for us for anything less than $200K and I can't see management offering any more.

Dear oh dear, let the people who are paid to make the tough decisions, make them.

Seriously if you think that our humble petition is going to put this club in turmoil we have more problems that anyone could imagine....

Bloody glad the media have caught onto it.....might even contact other media outlets....

And I know of a protest that is being organised for the Dogs trial as well.....

It may and most likely will do sweet FA, but as long as we live in a democratic country with freedom of speech, we will have our say......

He has already stated that he will take a pay cut to stay so if we get him for say 250k-275k that would be a good deal considering the stuff he gives us on the field and off it setting a good example and giving guidence to the younger player in the club.

When 2012 comes around there will be a significant increase in the cap which will allow us to keep our youngsters+Braith.
You make it sound like he was the only one who did anything in that match. If it wasn't for Carney, Braith's field goal would have been worth as much as the one Terry Lamb kicked for the Bulldogs against the Knights.

I dont think he meant that at all, but without Braiths field goal, there is no extra time and therefore no semi final......

I'm not saying or making it sound like Braith was the only one who did something in that match because he wasn't, i'm simply saying that if wasn't for him steping up to kick that field goal (something that both Carney and Pearce couldn't do) we would've been ousted in the first week.

Forgotten 2009 already? Player factions ripped the club to pieces, and shit like this causes player factions. If Braith has a great season he'll either be offered a really nice contract elsewhere or a reduced one by us - we don't need silly petitions telling management how to run recruitment and stirring a ruckus among the ranks.

                  Just let it be.

And I'm saying that if it wasn't for Carney, Anasta's influence in our season would have been greatly diminished. Its the chicken and the egg thing....which came first?

Im sure uncle Nick will be shuddering in his boots, cmon Phantom if it took 250k to re-sign Anasta and we lose SKD because of this would we have to start up another petition against the previous petition to re-sign him?????

If Easts came out in the media today and sacked him as of tomorrow, id sign the petition 1000 times over, if they ripped the captaincy away ala freddy did too Fitz, id sign, but all the club have done is given him an option to negotiate with other club, hardly an unloyal act.

Anasta is a great bloke and a very good footballer and leader, but the ball is well and truly in his court.

You really dont get it do you rusty.....

Its not about the numbers....its about having the guts to stand up to the man....to show that no matter how much more money and power they have than us, and how many fewer than them we are, we can still have our say.....

And you are just going by what the media tell you to beleive like so many others....

Do you think his mum would have jumped on board if she thought we had nothing to gain......I think she knows better than any of us how her son is feeling, and what is happening.....and yet she is more than happy to lend a voice....

Do you thing we do not realise that in the grand scheme of things we will be lucky of our little petition makes it past the shredder of Noyces desk....but at least we will have tried......

But if one person stops for a second and thinks about what is happening and how it will impact on the team and the club, then we have gained a whole lot.....

No i get it totally, Over previous years , player retention has been apalling, the treatment of our great young players has been appalling, the development of our decent young blokes has been appalling, we have been quite happy to replace 3 good young blokes with one big name signing who has failed dismally wjilst the kids have come good, hannant,Soward,Watts,Winterstein, Henderson for starters.

PLayer discipline has been covered up and mismanaged.

Player unrest and leaked stories the norm.

I love Anasta as a bloke, a leader a loyal clubman and a passionate player, but players come and go, in the end they do what is best for them, as would any Human Being.

I wont hold it against him if he leaves, he has given his all, but i also do not agree questioning the decision off the club who in recent times has moved forward both on and off the field.

On this occasion when you look beyond the emotion, the club has acted professionally and responsibly for both Braith and the most impotant thing EASTS

To all those that are saying that it's up to the management and that there is salary cap pressures and that we need to focus on the future; they are exactly right. However, in my view this petition isn't about forcing the club to hold on to Anasta and lose some of the up and coming superstars. It's about showing our support in Braith and the club, and hoping that they do everything they can (by following the rules of the salary cap, unlike Melbourne Storm) to keep our beloved captain where he belongs. Every club needs an experienced, committed and inspirational captain like Braith; a lot of clubs don't have that but we are one of the lucky ones. If we really can't keep him then it will be very sad and disappointing, but at least we know that everything that could have be done had been done!
