  • MERGED: The chookpen flag thread

I thought it was time the chookpen's flags got a thread of their own. We have 5 flags. 4 of them with large poles but small flags and one huge one (Which I think is 4mx4m). We don't take flags to away games unlike other clubs and this needs to be fixed. Fortunatly I am going to fix this problem. I've made a flag myself and have more ideas for some.
    Here it is.

It is 2mx2m. It is 9 horizontal stripes of red white and blue. Here is how I made it.
    1. Went to spotlight and bought Ripstock nylon (shower curtain material) for my flag (Costed around $40-$60)
    2. Sent it off to a dress maker to cut the material and sow it together
    3. Bought 3 metres of PVC piping, cut it into 1 metre lengths and bought broom sticks and cut it up into three pieces to join the lengths (Costed $20)

How will I take it to games? As I come to the game I'll have the pieces of the pole, the flag and the connector in a cricket bag. I'll put the connector on the pole, put the pole on the flag and start waving it. This is how I will get it in the ground

This is how we can fix the problem of us not having any flags at away games. I'm happy to have ideas here for new flags that can be named, to be asked any questions you have about the flag and we can discuss in this thread new flags being made and how to take them to away games and if we can take them or not.

The next flag will be 4mx4m. It will be made of 3 big stripes, 1 red, 1 white and 1 blue.

make it so the poles are interconectable should be able to use plastic conduit and have the flag rolled up and put it back together inside the ground

Top effort Nick although I don't think you'll be getting that into ANZ stadium, they have restrictions on the size of flags you can take in.

ANZ and Parramatta don't allow big flags in. Other than that most grounds would allow them, especially the suburban ground. Idea for the next flag is simple. It'd be 4mx4m and have 3 vertical stripes, 1 red, 1 white and 1 blue.

Any idea what the dimensions are for ANZ stadium are to be allowed? I'm thinking about making a few banners for our away games there.

ANZ don't allow anything very big.
In fact, they don't allow much unless you forward notify them. For the ANZAC Day game this year, some of us sent a spreadsheet to the good people there of the banners we wished to bring in, along with our personal details so they could hold us personally accountable for them. Probably a fair chance there would be something similar happening next year.
As for the flag you have got made nick, it looks good. I look forward to seeing your big one, which should be excellent, and can replace mine in the pen, as it got retired after this season due to wear-and-tear, and me moving to Qld.
No sir, I don't like it.

Here are some more ideas for big flags
This will be the 4m one I will make

I also had an idea for a 2x2m 4 square flag and a chookpen white one. I do think if we are doing to make these, we might have to get rid of those 4 flags that have long poles but a small flag (but the 4x4m flag should stay, it's a beauty of a thing).

It is possible we could do a painted design on one. There is no point going to a printer if it can be painted, it looks better hand made.

The next one will be the 4mx4m three stripes one

I'm debating between two flags. Which one would you prefer me to make.
Option 1: 3 metres tall and 2 metres long, 5 vertical stripes, in order, blue, white, red, white, blue.
                    Option 2: 2 metres tall, 2 metres long, 4 squares, 1 red, 2 white, 1 blue.

Anasta666 - luv your avatar! What about using that on a flag???
Don't be afraid to step out in the rain. Take a chance. Sometimes the only way to get your rainbow is by getting wet.

I am thinking of doing a painted design. I'm wondering what to do, the avatar, some sort of chookpen logo or something else? I'm open to suggestions

By the way, did a bit of research, Cronulla, St George Illawarra, Brisbane Broncos, Wests Tigers and Penrith Panthers have either way more flags than we do or more 4mx4m flags than we do. We have 1 4mx4m flag, the sharks have 3, st george have 7. This is horrible! What are we going to do? What I can do is limited but there is only 1 more solution, we make more flags. I know there's the issue of space but we could speak to our CEO about spreading into the next bay as well and having some flags there. Dream of the day when the chookpen has so many people, they sit behind the goals in bays 22, 23 and 26.

Sent an email to Telstra and they said:

"The Stadium’s Conditions of Entry states that flag poles can not be metal, extendable or greater than 1.4 metres long.

Exceptions to this rule can be made on an event by event basis in consultation with the home NRL club.

If the home clubs approve the use of the flags, the Stadium can include them on a registration list which is provided it to our gate staff for each event.

If you are able to send a digital photo of the flag or banner you propose bringing to the Stadium, we would be happy to pass a copy onto each of the home clubs for their feedback".

I sent them a picture of my flag to get approved. If you are making a flag and wanting to take it in for our two Telstra Stadium games please send me a picture of your flag tell me how big it is and what pole. I will (try to) get it approved.
The better we do this, the more we can avoid them on the day.

The flag I've got approved is the one I made at the start of the thread.

Also I've heard a tip is to put sticky tape on the top of the pole, that will ensure no holes come up in the flag.

Finally, does anyone want to make a flag? I hope one will be made, if you need a design ask me. Personally, I'd like to have a painted flag in the chookpen

                            Telstra Stadium flag rules

As you may have read in the flag thread, I'm trying to get my 2mx2m flag approved. A women is going to pass it on to the clubs to get it approved.
This is what she said to me:
"The Stadium’s Conditions of Entry states that flag poles can not be metal, extendable or greater than 1.4 metres long.

Exceptions to this rule can be made on an event by event basis in consultation with the home NRL club.

If the home clubs approve the use of the flags, the Stadium can include them on a registration list which is provided it to our gate staff for each event..."

I have posted this in the flag thread and also what you need to do if you want to take a flag in.

I do think it will be approved, I've seen Manly in there during the grand final with a 4mx4m flag.

I'm hoping to make a flag this season, nothing too big though. Any ideas?

Painted picture/animation or words is what I'm looking for.
