Remember when the Sri Lankins were a warm up match in the cricket???

    Pretty competitive now.

If we don't at least try and grow the game it's inevitable it will eat itself.

Even the gAyFL know this and act accordingly to ensure their games market doesn't decrease.

I don't think the world cup is a bad thing for the game. I just don't have any interest due to the lack of decent competition.
Also the criteria to represent the different countries is pathetic. It's almost as if....If you eat spaghetti you can play for Italy!

Shit by that scenario I'd play for a different country every day mate.

I see what you mean though.

IMO Origin is to blame. I've said it for years now, if we open Origin to everyone, it's not as though its a genuine selection criteria for Australia anymore, players could play for the true nation they are bred from. It would make international RL so much stronger. It would even make Origin stronger. Imagine Foran or $BW playing Origin???

Sign your first contract. Nominate Country Of Origin. Nominate State Of Origin.

If you genuinely grow up as an Aussie, no matter where your parents were born, you play for Australia if good enough. If you grow up as a Kiwi, that's who you identify yourself as, you play for the Kiwis. No more Tamou/Papali etc situations.

Maybe for WCs or special games you could invent an Italy if needed. But at least the top 3 nations would level out, especially the Bros who have struggled for years to keep some of their best cos of the lure of SOO.

Well 'football' or Soccer used to be dominated by Europe & South America even up to 30 years ago but clever promotions has taken the game into another competitive level in Africa and now Asia like North & South Korea, Japan & China as well as the USA. Of course I'm not going to say that RL will grown as big or even a fraction to what soccer is my lifetime but it will improve slowly. I can't recall PNG being at all interested in RL in the 70's & 80's but now they are.

And further to this... Well origin should be where you were born so we don't have this Ingliss and Folua situation as well we wouldn't have Sterlo representing NSW as he was born in Ipswich.
As for AFL...well that is on a road to nowhere. That international rules is a joke and even they know it.
