  • The Humble Pie thread

This is a thread to say that i'm happy to be eating some humble pie regarding Daniel Mortimer. I thought his signing was a joke back in 2012 but i never thought he'd be in first that much but his form at the moment brings a new dimension to Jake. It could be the coach or it could also be the SBW factor. I'm happy for the kid.

All those pie eaters, please stand up!

The beauty of DM is that if a break is made u can guarantee he is there in support. Great shoot player, but unfortunately too many acholades put on him at an early age.
I love his tenacity and the fact he has stuck with it despite many setbacks.

I thought Bosden and Oldfield were going to be terrible signings. Alas, I was wrong...

I was worried about Jennings, worried about price/value equation. Seeing his acceleration and swerve against the fullback bought a tear to my eye. The play only lasted 5 secs, but it was brilliant.

I've been a fan of Morty from day one. So much so that I still think he should be our first choice halfback but I know that as long as he can run, Pearce will be there.

It's a role that suits him well, he has pretty good core skills, strong in defence & supports the ball runner very well.

I can't see him pushing on to become much more though.

I can see him perform a role similar to Craig Wing did in the early 2000s....I have always been a fan of him too.

I think he has found his niche in coming off the bench and giving Jake a breather and terrorising the opposition's defence. I like to give his defence this year a big rap as well....good on ya Morts

Thats ideal though. No team can have 17 Australian reps, you need toilers, skill specific players. Robbo has minimised the role of Morts so all he has to do is what hes good at for 20-30 minutes rather than over extend his talent.

                  I love his defence.

His tackles are textbook, he always goes in very hard and every tackle is against a bigger player and majority of the time he brings them down.

He barely got a chance under smith to show what he can do. He only played a handful of games during origin where he had Banasta partnering him in the halves. When he played off the bench, I remember in one game against the faiders he scored two trys.

Managing the cap requires using middle of the road players in the most effective way and this is what Robbo seems to be doing with Morts. This kid has always been a hard worker with the right attitude and it is great to see him getting an opportunity to play a role.

Having said that, being able to play effective minutes as a utility off the bench does not necessarily make you a first grade half.

I thought he is playing pretty much the same skill level and intensity as he always has whether for us or the jets. He is at least consistent even if there aren't that many tricks to him.
