DCE's critics are going out on a long limb. He's the sort of fella who has always thrived on challenges as his illustrious record shows. He's the type that would want his final years to burnish that record. He's not here to mother Sambo. Footy ability is very individual, you can't learn, beyond a point, how to capture ability. Ya can't learn to be Pavarotti.
He's here to create opportunity on his side of the ruck and he's too experienced and too good to "fail" in any maeningful way.

Funny, he's saying the opposite. How his role here is to "help Sam flourish". The position's already moving away from his actual current playing ability, to his ability to nurture Sam. It's funny watching it shift. Even the media have in 2 days shifted to that narrative.
"Burnish" what record? His record is a Qld Origin record. Not an NRL club team record. His NRL club team record is one top 4 finish in his last 10 seasons. Zero grand finals. If the Roosters had that record in the last 10 seasons, you'd be Burnishing the joint down.

DCE got dumped from the Queensland team mid series and they came back to win it lol the guy has been a dud for years
Yeah only one game (trial) and most of the boys were probably stuck in first gear but I got flashbacks to Chad Townsend from last year. DCE made Drew Hutchinson look like he would be better, faster in comparison from the game against Parra.
I hope DCE proves me and others wrong as the season progresses otherwise shift him to the bench and throw Hugo back in with Sammy if we're really supposed to be a threat to the title this year.
Sam Walker played some of his best football next to slow steady Drew Hutchison
Thta's all he needs from DCE
Lesson 4: Do not play, Don't give the game away is a well known saying.
Obviously in Trials you are not going to be showing all you have as a player or as a team and probably only the barest of minimums if that to get through the game - just get through the period of time you are playing injury free is the ultimate goal of a trial.
It was an average first hit out for DCE at a new club with a new halves partner and a group of players that he's never played a game with before, he was likely told to take it easy as well as most locked first team players would be told during a trial, especially one in his late thirties.
Going off the logic of some here Tedesco, Mark Nawaqanitawase, Billy Smith, Spencer Leniu and perhaps a few others that are escaping me would all be in danger for 2026 as they weren't particularly great in the trial either. Throw Hugo in there as well, he wasn't spectacular in the Tigers game either.

I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I really hope we just peak at the right time this season and not behave like naughty school kids cramming for exams the night before, chasing points and jostling for position towards finals time. Yes I am excited for next week..
Nor am I a fan of leading the competition too early as that rarely ends well. It's funny though when the likes of Dragons, Souths or Canterbury fans think their team has the comp sewn up...and it's only April..
We should know by now that it's best to save judgements for the end of the season.
I remember people on the old Wall calling for Mullins to go early in 2002. Once Sticky put him on the wing he became one of the best wingers of that season.

not sure dce would go well on the wing lol but yeah, dumb to be writing him off at this stage. you never know but i'd be surprised if he's not our first choice 6 1/2 for the rest of the season.
sammy said recently that he's loved training with him

That sentence is sums up why he was signed. Let's face it, Walker's game against the Sharks showed that he still has a lot of work to do on his game.
DCE seemed the logical choice to help steer him in the right direction. I'm sure Savala and Toby Rodwell will benefit by training and playing with him also.
