Is there ANY possibility that people can express their opinions without being personally attacked?

If you don't like what Mr Walker has to say perhaps you could put forward an argument about why you disagree with him rather than just sledge.

We are all family on the Chookpen, that doesn't mean you have to agree with everyone but maybe treating people with a modicum of respect would be more productive.

And Batemans Bay Rooster I'm not singling you out I feel like we could all show a bit more grace in what we post.
Seriously Red, and why do you keep calling him Mr Walker but anyway, he comes on saying he doesn't know any of the facts, but then starts banging on about how women use this as a tactic against men. Who gives a fark about his opinion on that. The post has nothing to do with Jake Friend, because no-one knows the facts, as he admits prior to his rants.

So it's not Roosters related. So pls spare us, and move to another section. If you want to debate women using AVOs as a tactic against men with Shandi.

It’s disappointing to see these sorts of headlines linked to Roosters legends but we don’t know any of the facts, nor should we. It’s a personal matter and we have absolutely no idea about any of the context of this situation.

As I said to Mr Walker settle down please.

          Why so aggressive?

I thought what I posted was reasonable.

If we can't talk to each other in a reasonable manner I will just start closing threads again.

I had hoped that we could manage to have civilised debate on the Chookpen but I fear I am more deluded than you think I am.

I really am at a loss as to how to manage this site in a reasonable and equitable manner for all.

At least he wasn't arrested for blocking traffic while inebriated.

I'm not agressive at all mate. Andrew's rants are non Roosters related, and the rest of us aren't interested.

People post on here all the time, and someone says 'not Roosters related". So that's all I'm doing.

Spoken is a very calm voice. You're avoiding dealing with the issue.

Yes my thoughts are with the kids and I hope that this is more of a precautionary thing so that they stay away from each other while it boils over. Won't go further than that.

More generally I sorta wish the cops had opted for this sorta thing with my ex. Don't wanna go too deep but I never did anything to her and she had a heap of bizarre outbursts at me (mostly shouting and breaking shyte). She started calling the cops regularly to report me for nothing. Once the cops realised I wasn't a wife beater their only option was to arrest her. In hindsight I think some sorta no fault AVO... 'sort your stuff out guys or we WILL make arrests, maybe time to consider a divorce' woulda saved both of us a lot of issues later down the track. I'm certainly supportive of AVOs as a concept.

                    Apologies for misinterpreting your words.

So, just so I have it clear you object to Mr Walkers thoughts on AVO's as it's not Rooster related. And this is an opinion shared by the rest of the Chookpen. Is that the issue I'm avoiding dealing with?

is it odd that the avo was brought by the police but they haven't laid charges? not a good development but too early to know what's going on

Apologies, I didn’t start the topic to see some “in fighting” within the thread from my fellow chookpen members. I only started the topic because it was Roosters related and thought some might be interested.

Im happy for it to be closed or moved to the off topic section. Not fazed at all.

Yeah I mean it's Roosters news. IDK! Sounds like there's a court process which I know nothing about. Not gonna crucify a Roosters legend over an emerging situation or speculate any further.

Sad if it is in fact true, a long term Rooster champion.

No doubt former Rooster player will be used ad nauseam.

If reporting's anything to go off, the cops basically got an order saying Friend must not approach or be in the company of the protected person for at least twelve hours after drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs. Also, he must not assault, threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate them, and must not intentionally or recklessly destroy or damage any of their property or harm any of their animals.

My thinking (without any knowledge of the alleged incident or having seen the AVO's drafting) is:

                              - Nothing criminal is alleged to have happened but if he breaks these conditions he's farked.

                              - Other than staying clean over x-mas (or spending it away from his wife so that they have some time-out), the other things (which courts always approve) are more messaging than anything given you're not allowed to assault people regardless.

Bot condoning any circumstances leading to the police (and courts) deciding this sorta thing is necessary. However I hope Jake's in a good place and can find a way forward as the father we know he can be.

Former Sydney Roosters star and head of the club’s junior academy, Jake Friend, has faced court over an alleged domestic violence incident.

Police were granted an interim apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) against the premier-winning former NRL great, court records show.

Sources with information on the police investigation, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed the ADVO relates to a drunken incident at the 35-year-old’s inner west home several weeks ago.

The ADVO is not a criminal charge.

The boss and head coach of the Sydney Roosters Academy, which runs development programs for and coaches junior players, walked into Burwood Local Court with high-profile lawyer Paul McGirr on Thursday morning.

Court records show that, under the interim order, Friend must not approach or be in the company of the protected person for at least twelve hours after drinking alcohol or taking illicit drugs.

He must not assault, threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate them, and must not intentionally or recklessly destroy or damage any of their property or harm any of their animals.

The matter was adjourned until February 19.

Friend played 264 games for the Roosters. Over his 14-year career, he also represented Australia at Test level and Queensland in the State of Origin.

The former hooker played in three premiership-winning Roosters teams and was co-captain of one.

In the early 2000s, he was embroiled in a number of off-field controversies, but made a career comeback until repeated concussions forced him to quit the game in 2021.

Following his retirement, Friend became the head of the Sydney Roosters Academy and the academy’s head coach.

Outside his youth mentoring, Friend runs a plumbing company and owns a café in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
