I think Savala will get quite a bit of game time in 2026 to be honest. He'd obviously be the first choice replacement half but also a back up at lock or utility as well, I don't think DCE will miss too many games but Walker could so having Savala is great.

My impression is that Walker is a mercenary biding his time. Talented obviously but it's not yet clear that he's a million a season player, not after that Final effort. Like Trell, he'll be off as soon as northern offers trump East's.
I recently read the shameful Noel Kelly story. It tells us how working class atheletes were cruely exploited by the RL in the past. Giltinan brought the RL as entertainment idea to OZ. He was a promoter, a businesman and the model that he set up was a sort of "players last" deal. Most played for the love of the game getting very little financially from it. In Kelly's case, he couldn't afford to leave his butcher job for 6 weeeks, when selected to tour. Wests (his club) eventually stumping up the family support money to enable him to make the trip. For years they played in pro high proflie events as virtual amatuers. The damage sustained in Kelly's playing career finaslly killed him. What a contrast to the situation today?Last edited by Paddo Colt 61; 12-21-2025, 04:25 PM.

I tend to agree with you. Happy to have my mind changed though.Originally posted by Bansai Pipeline View PostI’m off Walker big time.
DCE and Savala make a lot more sense to me.
Walker too inpatient and immature. Incredibly talented but a loose cannon. Benji esque.
We won’t miss him.Exonerate the West Memphis Three - www.wm3.org

Sam Walker is magic.
Great goal kicker.
Great grubber kicker.
Great long passes for tries.
Has an X factor.
He's still learning...and doing a fine job of that.
Lower grades are not first grade.
I'll believe in the "next big things" when they shine in first grade.

"Loose cannons" can be match-winners....Walsh for example.

This....people forget Sam Walker is only 23 - same age as young rookie "stars of the future" like Hugo Savala or Jonah PezetOriginally posted by bondi.boy View PostSam Walker is magic.

also 2yrs younger than the likes of Lachlan Ilias or Toby Sexton who still can't establish themselves in the NRL despite promise

Good lord. Bansai's had a late one and the usuals have flopped on.
Walker's a star, the best half we've unearthed in years, and coming back from an acl.
His off the cuff instincts are the best thing about him. There really is no other half like him. I love the fact that he tries things. He's very good at the things he tries. He is a freak. Every chance he'll play origin next season if we're winning, now that Qld has ditched DCE...
Hugo's stability and straight play is the perfect foil for Walker. Hopefully DCE can do it as well as Hugo has.
But Walker is a gun, and you're off your head if you're bagging him.
