Lucky your flight from Brisbane wasn't any later or you probably would not have been able to land in Sydney either.Originally posted by ism22 View Post
- On the way back the plane had to land in Sydney as there was lightning in Canberra. After many hours of waiting, they announced that we're getting loaded onto a bus for Canberra. Currently on the said bus, going through thick rain.

SES, came at 7.45 pm and removed the large main branch and chopped into smaller pieces then about an hour later they came and removed the remaining branches and patched the fence which was damaged, have to admit i was very impressed with the job they did.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post
There sure has been some bad storms the past few days. Hope you don’t discover any more damage tomorrow. We’ve had a few shockers here in Canberra too. Mainly heavy rain though tonight. Stay safe.
Will get the roof looked at later when the weather settled down, hopefully there was no damage there, there is no signs of visual damage at ground level.

To close the loop on my story, we arrived home at 3am and it doesn't look like anything was busted. If anything, my tomatoes/veggies got a good watering while we were away, which is pretty sweet.

Thanks, still have to get up and have a look after the winds die down but the way the branch fell it looked like it missed the roof completely.Keeping an eye on the trees still yesterday and today as the wind is wild.Originally posted by ism22 View Post

You’re very lucky it only landed in the driveway and not on your roof. I always get anxiety on these sort of windy days with all the huge trees near our house. The wind woke me up this morning as the tiles on the roof were rattling. I see the weather is crazy again tonight in Sydney too with the BBL delayed due to rain and wild wind. Hope you’re keeping safe tonight.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post
Thanks MR, seeing some of the damage on the news to other properties ours was only mild, still though it was a scary having half a tree come down in the drive way and blocking access out.

It was one of those days, hardly getting out at all yesterday just had to get out somewhere today, even though the wind was strong there wasn't any rain around so drove to Rockdale to seat covers for the new car. Ended up going out for a drink and have dinner out as there was still no sign of rain, managed to get home just as the rain was starting to set in. Wind is still wild and trying to watch the 5th set between Vucik and Draper at the Australian Open is almost impossible now with the wind pixelating the signal.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

In the end it was amazing they decided to start the BBL game, just looking at pics of the covers being blown off, also part of the ceiling in the O'Reilly stand started coming away.Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

We had more branches down last night, not as big as the first ones that came down but still enough to knock one of the clothes lines up the back out of the concrete foundations, its on a very interesting tilt now.
Hope your roof tiles held up with the wind.Last edited by horrie hastings; 01-18-2025, 11:16 PM.

Everything seems to be all good with the roof. Well not being experts on what the roof should look like it’s hard to be certain but there’s no missing tiles anyway. But with some of those gusts I was really worried it was going to do some serious damage. We had someone fix up the roof about 5 years ago too as apparently it needed some work with new ridge capping new sealant and some broken tiles needing replacing. There’s a huge mess in the front yard though with so much fallen bark and dropped limbs and debris from the gum trees. I don’t think it was quite as bad here as Sydney though from all the reports. Crazy that you’ve had more damage. You must be so over it by now! And yeah the BBL was a sellout too. What a disappointment for all those fans.Originally posted by horrie hastings View Post
