  • It's been a year since the Californian bushfires. I'm grateful my niece and her husband had already moved from San Diego to Florida a few years back but we did have one family friend affected temporarily.

The fire that's burning inland from Narooma and Tilba is a worry as it hasn't been controlled yet. The strong NW wind is fanning it towards the coast.
The alert level has been raised to Watch and Act.

I have friends in Tilba. They're feeling very nervous! Their car is packed and ready to go.

I'm sorry to read this Bates. That's a lovely part of the country and I can't imagine how they must be feeling.

I hope it won't come to the point that they have to leave.

Thanks mate. They have family/grandkids staying so they won't take any chances.

I'm in our local RFS. We're on standby and may need to head down shortly to help out.

Good on you for looking out for everyone and keep safe. We grew up on the Darling Downs of QLD in a flood area but never experiences the fires. Keep us updated please.

              • Only got to about 36 today so slightly less than forecast. Still waiting for that cool change though. Hope all you Sydneysiders and coastal dwellers have got through the crazy heat.

It must have bypassed Canberra. We must be too inland. Hopefully another one is coming through later.

I have all the windows opened letting the wind cool the place down, the poor air conditioner really struggled today. The kitchen windows face East but the southerly is blowing beautifully through them, both bedrooms face due South, they are getting the breeze but not as strong and direct, really need the main bedroom to cool right down before bed time.

Perhaps it stopped at maccas on the way up. These southerly busters can have quite the appetite especially if they form off Antartica. There was also holiday traffic with Sydney siders heading home.

Bondi is at it's best at that time of day especially before the southerly hit's. It has so much vibe! More vibe than sally's favourite toy

A birds eye view of the mass exodus once the southerly hits Bondi is always highly entertaining. There's never enough buses and the eateries can't keep up with the sudden demand for food and cold drinks.

                        • It didn’t hit here till 2am in the morning so had to go to bed with the house still hot. It’s beautiful outside now though.

You reminded me of a time i was at Bondi Beach, would have been in the late 60's. i was at the beach with my sister, mother and my mothers sister and it was a beautiful day but this thunderstorm rolled in , you could see it coming so we packed up and headed to a shop across the road to stand under the awnings, there was a huge crack of thunder and lightning flash and everyone started running, we were lucky we had moved earlier and got a spot out of the weather while the storm passed, my mothers sister even treated me and my sister to a chocolate paddle pop while we waited, the stormed passed and then we went back to the beach.

I was surfing down at Cronulla when the 2015 hail storm hit... We couldn't see the shoreline from the hail and sand being blown off the sand dunes. We paddled in and took shelter against the sand dunes then used our surfboards to protect us from the hail.

It was pretty heavy with plenty of lightning. 10 minutes later and it had moved out to sea, sun came out and the water glassed off making surfing conditions near perfect.

                              It was quite surreal actually!
