Even if we were all concerned about the hole in the ozone layer.............is it worth a minor player like Australia crippling its own economy?
Unless Asia and America jump on board it ain't worth discussing.

Most people who are 30 & under believe in climate change they have heard about it from their school days that’s why the youth have marches about it & any Government who doesn’t get on board will not get into power. There will be no economy if the planet is not looked after.

          2 wrongs don’t make a right.
Be proud that Australia wants to try & do it’s best to ease global warning.
I don’t want Australia to follow in the foot steps of the 2 most selfish & greedy countries on the planet.

Australia is already at net zero...so why all the panic?

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

                Agreed mate.

It's not as if it's us fighting against the world. If anything, we look like idiots at international meetings when we deny the need for action because we're then fighting with the USA, Japan, Europe, Canada...etc while China/Russia/India just sit around trolling us.

IMO it's a fool's argument to say 'we shouldn't do anything because we're small'. If anything we want to be at the forefront of developing the tech so that we can sell it to big polluters (while using it for ourselves).

FWIW we're still renovating our new house before moving in but it's gonna be completely off the grid (and carbon positive) for ~$20,000 all up. Not gonna quote our house price but the average price in my suburb is ~$1.6m so go figure! This is a tiny bit of money in the context of the purchase. IMO we will reach a point where houses are just like this... that is... people on the dole will move into govie houses and they won't have electricity bills. Having lived on the margins following a messy divorce, fark I woulda loved to be able to just put the heating on without getting slapped with a $1200 a month bill.

So it's not just a climate change argument, there's also an economic argument for all this! We WANT Australia to be developing top notch renewables so that we're making $$$ selling it to the world (value-added goods command bigger profits than selling coal/gas) and our people living on the margins can also leverage this stuff to live more comfortable lives (e.g. 24/7 heating/cooling in poorer parts of Australia... meaning they can be more productive because they'll save $$$ on energy, freeing up more and giving more capacity to do other stuff).

                I see no benefit in...

                - Denying a narrow area of science outta self-interest

                - Arguing with our friends on the global stage (when there's enough BS/trolling going on) rather than setting the scene for more productive conversations

                - Paying $$$ for fossil fuels and polluting the shyte outta our own land when there's cheaper, cleaner alternatives out there

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if we believe in man made global warming or not. pollution , plastics and the such is bad for the environment and as such should be limited bas much as possible. Plastic in particular are so harmful to wildlife .The oceans are full of the crap

                    Exactly.
There's a hell-of-a-lot we can do without shooting ourselves in the foot.

not a climate scientist so can't talk with the authority that others do but seems like the world needs to take steps before it's too late

The younger generation has been brainwashed into thinking the nation can be powered by wind and solar...now.
                              It simply cannot.
The South Australian Premier yesterday declared a "Climate Emergency"
The South Australian parliament agreed. Libs maybe too *scared* to do anything else.
It's freezing this morning, everyone will be awaking and switching on their heaters.
BANG! Massive hit to the electricity and gas grids.
Shovel the coal and pump the gas into the power stations at express pace!...or else the People will be chopping up their furniture for firewood to keep warm like the folk in Texas USA had to do in the recent snow storm/blizzard.
Petrol pumps in servos run on electricity.
No electricity, no fuel for cars, society grinds to a halt. Supermarkets shut. Computers shut down.
                              No electricity for home cooking.
Texas went down the renewables now path.
Texans immediately rushed out and bought wood-fired stoves and wood fired heaters for their homes...so they wouldn't get caught again.
Stock up on firewood, stock up on canned soup, instal a wood burning stove and wood burning heater...look how cosy and not hungry the prepared family is.
                              "Renewables now" is totally flawed.
Peter Dutton's "sensible transition" is the correct policy.
Unfortunately....or fortunately...the voting public don't agree with the Liberals policies on climate change.

When Scomo went to the Pacific Islands Forum he was pressured by the other countries to adhere to their requests. Scomo quite correctly stood his ground and said he was only accountable to the Australian people and his climate change policy is what Australian wanted.

It's now up to the present government to fulfill their policies on climate change- they took it to an election and won. South Australia is making plans on projects with clean energy- like a new hydrogen plant. The people of South Australia had a election not long ago.....and this move towards clean energy is what was promised if the Labor government won.

As for Texas, yeah when the failure happened all the anti-climate change brigade straight away came out and blamed frozen turbines, windmills etc etc. I'll let you find out the truth.

Personally i'm a fence sitter on the subject- im not convinced one way or the other.
