Thanks Trurk. Yes to people who don't have to deal with these issues, such small victories seem trivial. But to a parent of a child with a disability it means the world.Originally posted by Trent_Robinson View PostAll the best there Mightywomen, little victories are the best imo..
On a side note, I can't believe I haven't been thrown out of the new site yet. Cross fingers that my connection issues have been solved!

As the initiator of this thread (I lost my membership on the new site & rejoined), I'm genuinely moved that others have shared their struggles without judgement.
Fundamentally, no matter who you support, footy is a great way to forget about life for a while. I take it far less seriously than I used to.
I'm feeling much better now, though it's so hard to keep the weight off as you get older. ....

It's certainly been a big help to me and we can never underestimate the kindness of others. I thought I had had a couple of nasty and cruel years until a friend in California told me about this charity she is involved with. It's similar to the Starlight Foundation except that she takes children who have come from homes of violence and abuse out for the day to Disneyland. She had needed sponsors for 2 more children for Easter next week otherwise the trip couldn't go ahead as the group numbers 12 of them. I decided to pay for the last 2 as I never had the chance to have children of my own and she emailed me today because one of the little girls age 7 burst into tears when she was told she could now go. At least I can say my parents wanted me and never treated me like these children have been treated. Plus Mum and Dad followed Parra so I'm so thrilled my childhood team had a big win last night...sorry Bunnywithteeth...! It comes with the territory around here...

Thanks buddy. I cried for the rest of the day about the little girl when she told me. And don't applaud me 56..applaud my friend! She was taking the trip yesterday with the children so I can't wait to hear about it all..so I won't buy any new dresses for a while this year..that's a small sacrifice to make to help a couple of little ones who have had nothing but negativity, fear and uncertainty in their young futures so far.Originally posted by milanja View Post

That's awesome RWB. Children should never have to grow up in a house of violence and fear. There are so many truly horrible stories in the media about kids who are exposed to such shocking lives of violence and abuse that it makes me feel physically sick. I cannot get my head around the fact that such situations actually exist.Originally posted by redwhiteblue View PostThanks for starting the thread.

Well I can happily report my friend survived the 8 hour round trip on a hired bus with 12 children from the foster home. She said they sang songs all the way and only had to wait 20 minutes in the queue which is good for Disneyland. Some again cried as it was very overwhelming but then they all calmed down when the ice-cream came..I can relate to that..it's my cure for everything too..Originally posted by mightyrooster View Post

Don't get me started about stories of abuse and violence in the media..this full moon eclipse just gone has caused so much in the way of horror stories about women going missing etc this week..Reading the daily paper should not make one cry all the time..
